Got in touch with Mayank ( varsha electronics ) for buying some drivers . The main objective of this project is to build a 5.1 or 7.1 speakers for HT use as well as for stereo use .

Primary objective is cost -effectiveness , better SQ than commercially available speakers .

A creative S30 bookshelf pair retails for around 7500 -8000 New and the budget for the DIY speakers should not be more than half the cost of commercially available bookshelves .

This project will serve as a reference for building cheaper alternative speakers ,but with good SQ for the DIY enthusiast

Any one interested in doing some team work like choosing the drivers , designing the crossovers ,boxes ?

Now the Design parameters are

1. centre channel
2. Front speakers
3. surround
4 . Sub is already done with the 12 " inch version of the driver . There is a seperate thread based on it .

Right now , the centre /front/surround channels are into consideration .
The front /surrounds will be bookshelf versions and subsequent version will be towers .

Anyone interested in the idea ?

yes , the other projects are really good but the caveat is that the speakers must be designed with the cheapest possible drivers , cost should play a very important factor . The reason for that is it would help many more people to take up the DIY route .

Since the intended application is for HT use .. I am sure many would be interested in the designs rather than buy the speakers off the shelf .
