Hello Geeks,

A straight forward question :). I want to make this sure before upgrading my existing TataSky HD box to TataSky+ HD box at Rs. 4990 as I would be mostly recording movies from Star Movies HD and Movies Now HD. Only if the recording is exactly as what tata sky shows live (i.e.: 1080i + 5.1/7.1 surround sound) it is worth buying for me.

Reply awaited from the users who have experienced it while watching recordings over their AVRs. Thanks in advance.

Regards
Vaibhav

the STB is 7.1 capable... but i dont think many/any HD channels give 7.1 surround sound... it's 5.1

Thanks Raghav, I wanted to know whether the recording which it does stores surround sound audio? doesn't matter 5.1 or 7.1 as of now... and of-course for HD channels only :)

I have not used Tata Sky. But there is no reason for quality degradation in video or sound between a recording and live viewing.

There is no downscaling being done by the STB.

I have been using Tata Sky HD+ for over 2 years now. All recordings are frame by frame, bit by bit 100% identical to live broadcast in audio and video. If the live video is surround sound 5.1, the recording will have exactly the same. No one can make out any difference whatsoever between the AV quality of Live and recorded content. That said everthing is source dependent. Note that not all HD channels have true surround sound audio- atleast 1/3rd of them have fake/pseudo 5.1.

And yes no 7.1 at all in any channel till date. And i bet it will never have. lets face it 1080p itself is bandwidth issue in broadcasting, 3D broadcast is also SBS not Frame pack. So even dreaming of 7.1 audio is unreal. Besides we dont lose much in 5.1 - works absolutely fine for me.

Waiting for a reply from people using Tatasky+ HD with a multichannel AVR

It definitely does store the HD recording with 5.1 encoding. If you are playing through your TV (in AVR passthrough mode) and then switch on your AVR you may need to restart the recorded program to get Dolby digital (as in passthrough mode it would probably be sending the audio signal to the tv in pcm - at least in does with my tv)

best wishes

Thanks guys.. that answers my question very well. I can now confidently buy this STB. :yahoo:

Thanks again and take care.!!:D

Recorded program has same picture/audio quality as the live/broadcast program, if that's what you are asking.

Or what htfan said... sorry I didn't see the response

I am using Tata Sky HD+ with Yamaha AVR. All the recorded programs have same quality as the live ones. 5.1 it plays from the recorded programmes too but as mentioned above some channels have fake 5.1
Need to check out Dolby digital plus. As i remember Star world HD shows Dolby digital plus, will record some programs and check.

Thought i replied this already... The STB is 7.1 capable... But none of the telecasts have 7.1 audio, at the moment...

It totally depend upon the transmission if the movie or prg is coming in 7.1 or 5.1 , avr will give such effects like wise today i bought this dth home theatre from sony whcih is made only for dth like tata airtel n all others in which star movies hd cahnnel i got full 5.1 sound now i switch the channel to movies now hd although movies now hd gives 5.1 sound too but it did not coz the transmission coming was not 5.1 but it did in star movies hd n same goes for 7.1 sound .
