Hello,

After I bult my proto LM3886 Amp (Mono) I bought pair of Full range, I had gone to SP Road to Buy reputed brands like Philips/Bolton or better.

But no one is selling reputed branded Drivers here in Bangalore SP Road.
I bought pair of Boston 8ohms Full range, with LM3886 it just sound so bad.

Is there some place where good drivers are available around Bangalore ?

I doubt if you get any good quality drivers in India. Most of the stuff has to be imported when it comes to Alpairs/Fostex etc., Your only option is to either hand carry them from abroad or use the services of borderlinx/ishopinternational etc.,

I am not looking at top quality due to cost and I am not regular listener, but I need something good for listening and also testing amps (some times)
I keep modifying Amplifiers I get bored of same after some time.

Any DIY Made Good Quality Drivers ?

Hi Vivek:

Fabricating a driver:

6.5"
high excursion
low distortion
wide bandwidth
paper/nomex cone
alnico or Neo magnet
low FS
cast iron basket
relatively low cost

Possible?

OK, then what about in 8"?
In size 8, I can build composite cone hi-excursion sub as you had quoted for 6.5", but only in ferrite magnet. For further details you can mail me to know more.
Or if you have any specif requirement, you can give me the details so that I can work on it and let you know.

First, apologies to suds for going OT and seemingly derailing this thread, but I think this OT will be of benefit to all.

Vivek, what I'm looking for is not a "sub" driver. Wideband, remember? The whole idea in my mind is to collaborate, to build a driver with your expertise/experience, other FM's inputs and get out something that DIY'ers here can use to build truly hi-fi speakers instead of us falling back on PE/Mad/bajaao to source quality drivers which on arrival here prove to be ultimately too expensive.

And I prefer not to PM you because then the collaboration is just between you and me and I know my limitations. I can contribute just so much and not beyond that. There are others who can contribute better in this area. I want collective inputs/direction from all knowledgeable FM's on this. Let me know if this is acceptable and I will open up a separate thread for this collaborative effort to go forward.

Ok, I have no issues to that. An open discussion will benefit everyone & get in multiple inputs to enlighten new ideas.
As to your wide-band driver choice. Can you describe your choice on an ideal 8" driver ?, It will help understand better.
Will you want a driver similar to Bose 301/601 or Cerwin Vega 8" ATW-8 ?. Presently I have original soft parts to those.
