Experts,

This thought has been lingering with me for quite over an year.

I have a Onkyo HTS 3300 which can play HD tracks.

I tested many scenes from movies to compare, if i can distinguish from a normal DTS/Dolby VS DTS/Dolby - HD

But i cannot make out any damn difference.

Is this all just a marketing stunt, where a lay man can never find a difference by his usual ears.

I understand and i can see improvement in picture quality between a SD and HD video

But when it comes to Audio, i don't find even a 5% difference.

Please let me know what you folks think and experience.

You are not alone. There are many who could not tell any big difference between normal DTS and DTS-MA or between DD and DD-TrueHD. However it depends on the speakers as well, like how detailed they are. Its like the difference between 720p and 1080p video played on a 720p TV. The AVR and the DAC inside it also are very important in delivering the capabilities of loseless audio. According to me, for a entry level HT setup, DTS and Dolby are more than sufficient.
