I would like suggestions on DVD players currently available (MARCH 2009) in India that reads XVID coded movies burnt as data DVD with Nero. Note, that the movies are downloaded through .torrent and usually range from 700 MB - 1.5 Gb in size.

Depends...
Any budget DVDP will do. I've bought a couple of Philips DVDP just to play Divx rips and both are doing a great job. Just ensure the DVDP handles Divx 6 i.e. is Divx 6 certified (it will be labeled as such). Divx 7 certified DVDP will be coming soon, and will handle H.264 rips too, but might be expensive initially. Also, better to take DVDP that will play via USB, it will save burning DVDs unless you want to save some for permanent backup.

Any current DVDp with MP4 capabilities will do the job.You can burn Xvid mov on DVD-R & play on DVDP.
