Hi Guys,'

My Edifier S550's one satellite is coming muted from its mid range. I have tried switching all cables and speakers to confirm that its that one satellite speaker which has the issue. I know the question i am asking might have been answered somewhere so will appreciate if someone cud guide me to the right link

The satellite design is 3.5 inch mid range plus a separate tweeter. The mid range is not working but its tweeter is fine. Is there anyway i can fix it? else if there is any edifier trustworthy or equivalent good speaker service in bangalore for this purpose, please let me know.

Usually the wire from the x-over side is soldered but attached to the driver by way of sliding clip on connector. Sometimes during, this might get dislodged.

Open the speaker and check that all connections are intact.

Thanks. Double checked for everything intact on the inside. Also crosschcked by opening other speakers, it looks very much the same but for some reason, only tweeter sound comes from this one speaker.

I request inpiuts from all DIY expert. This is a 26000 INR system and if this doesnt get fixed or replaced it ll neither be affordable for me to buy again, neither I ll have a chance to sell it as a 5.1 in perfect condition.

In case anyone in bangalore wants this system from me in this condition please feel free to let me know and i will sell for half price i.e.. roughly 12K. I just want to shift my hedache of fixing the midrange of one satellite. Its only 8 months used and even in worst case, can very well be used awesomely as a 2.1.

Thanks Nishanth. Anyhone with practical experience at Compuage infocom? Just needed an estimate of how do they charge for such issues in a system like this?

Hi
Since it is a satellite speaker take out the speaker and get it reconed locally .
Regrds
Somak

Thanks for the suggestion bro. However since i dont have any past experience with any speaker service, the thing i wanna know is that even if locally, who is good in bangalore for this purpose? I dont want to give this to an amateur who might fix it temporarily but screw things up in long run.

Coudnt get the proper solution to my issue in the subject. Compuage wants me to bring entire set to their shop which i wont do, thanks to the monster weight of sub. Thanks to George, I checked with lizzner electronics and they checked the speaker but cudnt assure me a possible perfect solution either. But genuinely appreciate their expertise in diagnosing the problem.

SO i have given up on repairing the midrange. I wish to get rid of this imperfect and now imbalanced edifier S550 set and so here is my new year gift to anyone interested. Once again, for first time reader, all 5 speakers except one sound no problemo. The one with defect is low in volume due to mid range drive problem.

I want to keep subwoofer for myself. But wanna give speakers away for free to anyone interested. Obviously the amp is built in the subwoofer so using these speakers (Bookshelf, MDF wood, 8 ohms each, 32 watts RMS each, 3.5 inch midrange, 25mm tweeter) with any other amp will be at the taker's own risk except that its free of cost to take that risk.

Bangalore takers only. Interested ppl please pm me. Have also posted this in give away thread. Thanks

Don't give up as yet. You say Lizzner guys have checked it; I'm assuming that you've taken only the defective speaker there. What happened there?

BTW, have you swapped the speakers to confirm that the fault lies only with the speaker and not the amp channel?

If yes, may be you can take just the speakers to the Compuage guys personally and explain the procedure adopted by you for diagnosing the problem. It is possible that those guys are assuming you to be a noob and hence insisting for looking you to take the entire set to them.

Thanks for the tips captrajesh.

Lizzner guys are very knowledgable and they even kind of crash-course-trained me how to check mid range driver defects. They had a solution that could change and fix the driver but I must appreciate they were also honest enough to tell me that a true listener will make out the difference as the fixed speaker will sound different than before . That was a deal breaker for me. I am an avid movie sound fanatic and have been passionate 5.1 listener for many years. At any cost I did not want to lose the tonal balance of the 5 speakers.

Yes I have swapped and tested all speakers. Its problem is with only one not with any cabling or amp channel.

Compuage guys wont listen to me. i tried calling and explaining (the same u suggested) thrice to different ppl only to receive an idiotic call center'ish reply everytime that without taking the entire thing to them they cant tell anything I also lliterally offered them 'u name the price' offer to send a worker at my home to check and fix it but still they wont budge (beat that !!).

On that note comparatively, I found the compuage dealer guy (not service) for edifier a much more patient and listening person who understood my problem but unfortunately didnt have enough authority to influence the service department and suggested otherwise to buy a new set. Oh ya in your dreams!

I have had enough headache since last whole week of calling and emailing all edifier related contacts and so I am sorry but I wud rather keep someone happy with whatever is left of it than taking the pain of dealing with retards who may not even necessarily fix it to perfection.
