Excited about PHILIPS AF 834

Phonostages for ceramic carts are very rare and cannot be bought these days. This is because almost all those who are into vinyl these days, use magnetic carts. Even if you find a ceramic phonostage, it is likely to be very expensive and hence it may make commercial sense to upgrade to a magnetic cart. Currently ceramic carts ironically cost as much, if not more than magnetic carts. On the other hand, most japanese vintage amplifiers (from before 1975 or so) tend to have ceramic phonostages. If you can find one in decent shape, then it would help your cause.

Having said this, ceramic carts, if connected to a decent phonostage can sing quite well. Carts like the EEI CS2000 were one of the best available in the Indian market in the 1970s and was quite a capable performer.
