Fans of mean, industrial machines?

Just went through a couple of posts/sites showcasing 'beautiful' equipments. Stuff that looks like just landed from outer-space or something that would be very comfortable sitting next to a Jag or a Lambo or Maserati...'beautiful' indeed :licklips:

Call me a perv here but I do have an Ayn Randesque liking for mean, industrial machines that appear to be designed to do what they are supposed to do best - sound great! Stuff that looks like hacked off Tractor engine or at best like communication equipment of a 60s spy movie (remember "victor1 calling victor2...victor1 calling victor2...come in victor2...over!" with big dials and lights flashing???)

Speakers are one place where I would make an exception...with the likes of MBL, Bolzano-Torre, Avant Garde around...

Other, less esoteric names I can think of are Camelot, Exposure, even our own Pulz making staid, industrial looking yet great-sounding amps...will post pics soon...

Wanted to open a thread for the 'other end of the specturm'...post equipment that might score ultra-low on WAF but sound terrific...

Atma Sphere, Lamm, Conrad Johnson, Convergent (CAT) and to some extent Audio Research - especially their old stuff fall in this line of thought.

Not that I'd forgotten it, but I'd forgotten that post.

If your liking for mean, industrial machines extends outside of the audio sphere, I did some browsing, a few weeks back, beginning with a post somewhere (bOINGbOING maybe) about huge hydraulic presses in America. Ended up browsing an online catalogue of massive machines made then. If I can find that link, I'll post it.

I find the emotiva stuff pretty "built-to-purpose" (even their remotes)...what say?

I work for a german steel manufacturer and regularly see machines that are tough to digest visually..! something that i have been drooling on for quite some time (though not from the audio/video sphere):

Yes, I've drooled over the Grace stuff too. Pretty good reviews from users as well. But I still want the phonitor.
