* if you want to find out the person what mobile operator or location he is registered.
* In case you want to recharge for prepaid cards for any of your friends or relatives in an emergency situation or otherwise (You did not know the opertor before)

if i recharge via icicibak i can recharge any number without specifying location or operator.

This may not work for ported numbers.
I have a GSM connection it says CDMA.
I feel it is not an actual tracing it may be a program to identify number with the starting 3-4 digits.

Not working for me also.
My long back MNP-ed number is still coming as old operator.
Number starting with 8 is coming as "number not found"

Yes. It may be correct that it would not identify all the numbers. But couple of numbers i checked gave me the correct result. Well anyway some information that may be useful for some of them like me!.
