Hey,
This is Soumya from kolkata new to the forum, i am a noob on diy and "audiophile" quality sound. Recently have made an purchase of a vintage sonodyne amp which is great sounding.

Thinking of doing some diy speaker building.
The main prospect is to build a stereo 2-way tower, so looking for sugestions regarding availability of some cheap but good speakers available locally or even would compensate if some member sells their used drivers.

Mainly the driver size should not exceed 8". Looking and for suggestions on wood, volume size of cutout , crossover designs etc..

Bought a Sonodyne SC3070 integrated amplifier. Budget would be as cheap as possible, excluding wood cost , want suggestions for driver etc...

For drivers say 2.5k

Please do not buy those Sonodyne speakers without hearing them first. A friend of mine has them [his Dad bought them way back] and IMO, they sound terrible. YMMV.

May be thats an damage piece? Possible? I am not advocating Sonodyne but I have heard quite a few of these speakers, as many 5, in different systems. I found them decent sounding for the price they are available now.
And going by your opinion, I don't even think that Sonodyne amplifier are good at all. They are quite bad. But the OP will find them very good sounding and I don't want to negate that. Hence people from those community prefer SX909 very much and hence the recommendation.
My opinion is personal and from real life experience. I don't want to impose that opinion to someone else. In past I had SA6000, SA5000, 580, Uranus III, SiA102R etc and many in between. I use to be a member of such community that I mentioned above.

Thanks everyone for the help, still cluless though, as the post you had mentioned @koushik i pretty much know who he is and he charges heck a lot(a lot lot) for anything that he sells.

Thanks all!!
But still confused!!
@koushik that guy is not someone to deal with asks a lot lot more than anything close to necessary.

IF i do a Diy , would you guys help me out.

Ofcourse we will. Everybody over here are very generous and eager to help with whatever they know. But still I would recommend you to increase your budget a bit and buy a decent used speaker. DIY is good but you need good drivers, good components for crossover. Chandni's component will not sound good at all. You will put in lot of efforts but result will be poor. Only if you can buy some decent drivers and components go with DIY idea. Rs. 6-7k for driver alone. Another 2k for components. Rest for cabinet, wires etc.
BTW where you live in Kolkata? I live near Bkp.

I am located in jadavpur.
Yeah chadni has cheap components, a FM has helped me to discover a site which offers decent drivers (peerless) at affordable price.

Here is the link : diyaudiocart

Help me out

Just FYI:
bibin3210 who (along with his brother) owns the diyaudiocart is my mentor (sort of) ! He's a very busy guy but always had time to help me finish my amp build.
:)

Ya am quite aware of that site and Jitu bhai who manages their speaker driver section. I bought a pair of mid bass and tweeter from them for my HT front left and right. I got the cheap ones. But for stereo I would never recommend those drivers. Get the Kevlar midbass driver and a good matching tweeter. These will not come within your budget of 2.5k. So I suggest you to increase your budget to around 5-6k.

@saheb11123

Since you have a fixed budget. I suggest you to go with the below mentioned configuration to choose from.

Tweeter:

1. SR10DT ( Peerless - 25mm Fabric Dome Tweeter - SR10DT ) - Budget buy

2. TL26SG ( Peerless - 26mm Silk Dome Tweeter - TL26SG ) - Price a bit on the higher side, but good bang for the buck. This is the very same driver GR Research chosen for their X-LS Encore BS.

Woofer you may consider:

1. M13NH ( Peerless - 5.25" Coated Paper Cone Woofer - M13NH )

2. SKO130 ( Peerless - 5.25" High fidelity 8 Ohm woofer - SKO130 )

3. S16NI ( Peerless - 6" Coated Paper Cone Woofer - S16NI )

Thanks,
Bijin.

Bijin,

I was planning to Pm you, but this may be faster.

Saw this on your site.

Peerless - 2" Neodymium Dome Mid Range - DM50AN

Now I know that Peerless India makes the Dayton RS52AN midrange. a potentially troublesome midrange to work with, but delivers outstandingly well with the right crossover, since it has such low distortion in the passband.. this looks like a "generic" version of that. could you confirm this? can I get a CSD /HD chart for this as well?

also is this available in ready stock?

@Koushik, I cant anymore(being a student is difficult and having a family who doesn't have any taste in music is troublesome too, such is the case with me). Maybe we can met up sometime and you can help me and guide me in this build. If you are okay with it then please pm me your number.

@bijinmb , thanks for pointing these out.

For a two way tower type which drivers will be suited most?

Help me out Koushik and bijinmb.
