I am running 5.1 setup currently and I am planning to go for 7.1. Which will be best experience, front height or surround back.

Room dimensions will help.

All things being ideal, front heights should be the first addition.

Will help with object based tracks.

A pair of surround rears might not really enhance your 5.1s.
