Full HD Projector for living room

There is also an Optoma HD33 which is a 3d projector under 1lac. the reviews are excellent. Are you going to have a motorised or manual screen? Go for manual and you can save there and be able to fit in both for 1.10lacs.

I am willing to stretch my budget so I'll take the motorized screen.
What is the warranty on this??

In case of projectors, it is worth buying outside and saving even if this means no warranty. In any case warranty is for a year only and nothing happens to the projector as long as one takes adequate care:

- always follow proper shutdown; allow fan to run after shutdown to cool down the lamp, ie, never shutdown/switch off abruptly
- if you live in an area where there are frequent power outages, install an UPS to prevent abrupt shutdown
- install the PJ properly preferably on a ceiling mount; do not move the projector frequently especially when bulb is hot
- periodically clean the projector, its fillers, etc.
- projector must have proper ventilation

Could you suggest any good PJs from the states which are in my budget...

If you are looking at the import route (bring it via a friend), I suggest you consider:

1. Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 3020e: about $1899 pros: highly rated LCD, Full HD 3D, high contrast, cons: no lens shift
2. Optoma HD33: about $1400 pros: Cheap DLP, Full HD 3D, cons: no less shift, low ANSI lumens

both these projectors are a no go... Epson 3D projectors are priced very well here in India so importing from there does not make sense... Same applies to the Optoma HD33... Plus the only thing the Optoma HD33 is good for is 2D & due to its low lumen count the 3D is almost unwatchable on it(personal exp)... As a 3D or Living room projector I feel the Optomas are a no go...

I think the OP 1st must decide if he wants to buy a 3D projector or not... If u want a 3D projector just buy the Epson TW6100 from India with bill & warranty... THe US price is $1600 which is around 88k + whatever u have to pay for customs + u wont have warranty... Frankly speaking buying an epson projector from the US runs the risk of ending up being much more than the Indian price...

As for my suggestion on 2D projector from the US, there are quite a few options available... There are a number of bright entry level 1080p projectors that are pushing the $700 mark & sometimes going lower... My pick among them would be the Acer H6500... This projector is pretty bright projector with pretty good PQ... Here is a link to a review by projectorreviews.com...

Personally I had a similar budget to urs... I chose the Epson 8500UB refurbished for $1100 & I managed to get a free bulb with it, making it a pretty sweet deal... It is absolutely the best PQ u can get under the $2000 range... PQ & Black lvl wise it comes pretty close to the Epson 5010 & the only place where its lower is the brightness... But from my personal exp I am able to enjoy a 180inch image in the afternoon with only the curtains drawn(light pours through these curtains ie not remotely dark)... That too on a cream colored wall...Once if have a proper screen setup the image quality would be even better... With the budget of 1-1.2 lacs this projector along with a 120-135 inch high gain screen would beat the crap out of most of the optomas & the epsons etc that many ppl including myself have mentioned in this thread... But the compromise is its not 3D(which frankly I didn't want)...BTW 1 more thing about this projector or any LCD projector for that matter is that these are larger & heavier than DLP projectors... My 8500UB was close to 9-10kgs... Some summary videos from art firemen on the 8500UB...

To sum up the projectors u should consider buying from the US are as below

Acer H6500
BenQ EP5920
Viewsonic Pro8200

For around $900
Epson 8350

For around $1100-1200
Epson 8500UB

Do get back to me regarding weather u want 3D or would prefer a 2D projector & the budget u have in mind...

As I already mentioned in my first post my budget is around 1lac.
I will not be using 3d much but at my budget it is a default option I guess.
I may play some 3d games if I get a chance.....

Also how is the Panasonic AR100??

Lolz I still cant figure out weather 3D is a requirement for u are not... But seeing as u are pointing out all 2D projectors, I am gonna guess its not... Anyway AR100u is a very good projector & it is very bright... Problem is it has a very low lamp life & a very costly lamp compared to Epson... plus the US price is in the range of $1250-1300(around 70k)... Add customs to that figure & the total will reach close to 85k... You are better off buying a 3D Epson 6100 from India with warranty for around 1 lac...If the AR100u goes on sale for around $1000 or less then it might be worth taking a risk... But the lamp life & cost is a big con... PQ wise it is very good(not at the level of the epson 8500UB but better than 8350)... I had a chance to demo it at Shajju_Thomas's home... BTW Shajju's frnd is selling a AR100u if u are interested... Also another forum member has a BenQ W6000 on sale which again is a very good & bright projector...

PS I really think u should not base ur decision based on DLP or LCD but rather on which individual model in ur budget is the best buy...

He sent me PM that's the reason I'm asking about it,but it does not have 3D...

So it looks like the Epson 6100 is the only PJ which ticks all the boxes for me.
What is the warranty on this from India.
So finally will this be a good investment?I've almost made up my mind to buy the Epson 6100.
Also what is the best price I can get it for?

Epson 6100 for 95K with 1 3D glass. You can reach any epson dealer to give this price or contact Exodus Mumbai from whom I purchased mine.

Dude,

It shouldn't cost you more than 100k with shipping to Hyderabad. Forget 1.25 lakhs ! I got mine in Nov from Exodus for 95 k.

As I have mentioned before, if 3D is a requirement than buying from US is not a good option... Buy from epson in India itself & enjoy 2yr warranty & a price comparable to the US pricing... Infact the epson tw8100 is cheaper in India than it is in the US... Btw the epson tw8100 is around 1.35 lacs is a much much better projector than the 6100... If u can pls increase ur total budget to 1.5-1.6 lacs instead of 1.2 lacs & invest in this projector... It's a dicision u will not regret... There is almost a exponential diff in PQ... Mind u tw6100 by itself is an excellent projector but the tw8100 is in a diff league all together...

Scheduled a demo for the 8100 on Saturday, hoping it convinces my father to get this instead of the 6100....

Just finished with the demo of the TW8100 but I am sad to say that I was not impressed at all.
I dunno why,is it because of the lack of screen(wall is blemishless and light cream in color)?
We tried playing all kind of video from a Bluray player but the pictuire was still not that great compared to an LED tv.
Also the colors looked washed out even when a little ambient light was introduced, there was no sharpness in the picture too...

Was I expecting too much?
Are there any other models that lack 3D but produce an excellent picture at my budget??

I recently got the "Panasonic AE4000" full-HD projector for our living room, it's awesome as per my expectation! Costed me 1.2L without B&W in Pune. Sharing few images:
