Hi all.

Looking for floor standers at laughable budget 15 k!!

And at this budget I want best of.

Personally I know that I should not expect much

Option I got is
Mordaunt Short Carnival 6 Total price is 15650 ( 14750+900 Shipping) yes the same speaker on Ebay.
( BTW they are back on ebay)

How good it is? And how is ebay experience of getting it delivered? I tried to locate the thred but did not found.

Also I found this speaker has 90 DB sensitivityso how good this speaker for low powered amp I am planning, like topping tripath? What will be performance with low powered tube amps ,and extremely low powered amps like miniwatt?

Another thing is can I keep these MS very close to wall? I do not have much space.

Any other speakers suggested, available around Mumbai? Anywhere deals are going on?

BTW auditioned Mission MV 8 and Some Jamo towers and was sourly disappointed. IMHO low priced towers in home theatre packages are very bad for music.

I had mission M 73 i- decent speakers , those were display pieces ,used them for a year. Good speakers but cosmetic condition was not great. So sold it off.

Other Components
Source Dual TT , Philips 931 CDP,PC + Apple Airport Express + Valab Dac +Flac , Have another Nu Force Mu Dac

Amplification Sonodyne Pre and Nad 2400 Power , Sansui AU D 11 ( May dispose)

PLANNED
Topping Amp
Logitec Squeezebox Touch
Topping Amp

Dreaming of getting a tube amp

Thanks ,
Hemant

Yes, you can certainly look at the Mordaunt Short Carnival 6 speakers. Check out my review here - http://www.hifivision.com/speakers/...s-floor-standers-below-rs-25k.html#post271898

And yes, I have tested them with the Topping T20 amp also. Though I needed to crank up the volume a bit, it wasn't all that bad. And I have kept my speakers quite close to the wall. But not too close - atleast 2 feet away. Cause otherwise, if they are too close I think they were a bit boomy.

2 feet is quite close to the wall?? Naveen, do you stay in palace or something similar?:)
For me, quite close is about 6" and too close is almost touching the wall

Hahaha, no way dude - quite a humble rented place. :o

I found that this sounded really good so pushing it closer to the wall brought out some boomy bass - not good. :)

The Pioneer SP-FS51-LR floor standers can be an option. Rave reviews all over ! They should cost around 18-20k for a pair.

Hemant,

For the kind of sound you are looking for, there is but NO new FS speaker in your budget,
Either you increase your budget or hunt for a deal on used ones OR you have the option of going DIY ;)

Find a decent used pair or get one built to your spec. Don't look for new floorstanders at that price. Everything sucks.
+1 on that

dont even think of buying a floor stander at this price. Highly compromised in multiple aspects. You should look at bookshelves instead and maybe up ur budget a bit and you can get a terrific pair of BS.

Are these available in Mumbai ? I don't think so.........

well I have ordered both the SP BS21 and FS 51 5.1 set ups for myself from Mumbai itself. they are being sourced from the Pioneer website as that's the only retail option. I would be getting the delivery by Sept end and then would post a review about them.

Well, there you have your answer in the last few posts. There are NO speakers you can get in this price range.

:)

hemant,

akshay jha on this forum has a pair of very nice DIY floorstanders. They may not be for sale but maybe he could build something for you.

I have beent to his place twice and heard them. They are quite nice and well made.

rgds,
mpw

Thanks mpw ,thanks all.for time being will be using tannoy mercury m3,which I am getting as swap.lemme see how it goes with rest of my compnants

Hemant,

Nothing laughable about a 15K budget - it is a healthy amount and you can get quite a few good speakers in that range. Don't know why Floor Standers are so expensive in India, but even if you buy Bookshelves and add the cost of good speaker stands or wall-mounts, the cost sort of evens out.

The MS Carnival 6 is an excellent speaker. I like it very much paired to a Norge amp. The music is crisp & clear with well controlled lows. If I had to nit-pick, I'd say that the highs seem to be a bit bright on occasion. And they need to be atleast a foot or more away from the walls, otherwise they tend to get boomy.

I bought them on eBay, and got them in a week. Very well packed. I posted a few pics and a full review on that thread - but the entire thread has been deleted for some silly reason.

Anyway, if you are interested, you can get the Carnival 6 cheaper elsewhere. Send me a PM if you want to know the details.

Cheers
Teja

these are the very kind of tower speakers which you will spend money on...and then guess what in a few months you will be back shopping! Good luck listening to such posts.

imo at that budget you will get better sq out of a bookshelf speaker. look at the wharfedale diamond series. the bose 301's are a very good set of speakers also. audition them and you wont be let down

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
