I have hooked up the AL MX5021 to my LG 32in LCD TV, and they sound pretty good for both movies and music. In my opinon these or equivalent stuff from AL, Logitech or Creative would fare better than AE bookshelf kind of speakers.
Also having a separate subwoofer helps reproduce the low frequency of movie tracks giving the much needed punch for the movies. Not to mention they are aesthetically pleasing as well alongside the sleek LCD panel. For e.g. take a look at the pic of my setup in link below.
