Goot soldering iron queries

I bought the 40 watt nichrome heated model.

While working, the tip becomes brown or oxidized quickly.

The barrel has also turned brown and the plastic handle also becomes very warm.

Im using 63:37 rosin core solder.

Thank you

that happens since the iron doesnot have a temp control, check if you can reduce the input volatge a little bit with a small tapped transformer , I used to put a series diode for the elcheapo irons we used many years ago

Youre absolutely right!

Sometimes the tip is too hot and turns brown.

Sometimes the tip is cold and doesnt melt the solder.

Its a bit irritating.

A temp controlled one as brog said is the best. A regular soldron iron is anytime better than local brands and durability is excellent.

True these elcheapo irons are more like use and throw type. I used to get them for Rs20-25. Most of the times, their heating element used to burn out so I used to get new one instead of spending Rs10 on new element. However that was long long back and I really don't know how much these would be costing now!

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
