Hi Guys - I need some opinion from this forum before I can purchase this device.

I am currently having a broadband speed of 2 MBPS (ACT) connected to Wifi router.

My questions With this speed, can I stream HD videos with surround sound from Mobile and PC without any buffer.

Thanks a lot!!

The video streaming from mobile to Chrome is beta version in the chromecast. So dont expect it to work. 2MBPS will not be sufficient. There is very lenghty process while casting local video to TV. It will depend on what are spec of the Mobile to transcode.
But surely you will need 4mbps.

Thanks..if not mobile, can i stream from PC to TV with 4MBPS considering the lengthy process

Mind sharing exactly what you are trying to achieve?

Chromecast is primarily a "mirroring" device i.e. it will mirror the contents of your smartphone or tablet onto a bigger screen like TV.

If its TV channels you are looking for then Roku is the best option followed by Amazon TV, but note most channels will not work unless you have a US IP (easily achieved via VPN or proxy) and a subscription.

If you are looking to stream content on your PC then Chromecast will work, but note a lot will depend on your wifi and router capabilities. Most routers are limited to the N channel and will not stream HD video, for that you will need a dual band AC channel capable router and these start around 9-10K and a lot depends on how far is your TV from your router.

Other ways to stream content are to enable media sharing on your PC and share via router (you will still need a Chromecast or mirroring device if you want to use a smartphone or tablet as remote or even as a media library) or simply use a smart router that has a USB support and can stream media.

If you can share what you are looking to stream (SD or HD content) along with any paid services like Netflix then more "specific" inputs can be shared.

I am using Chromecast for the last one year and it works superbly.Mt internet speed is 2 MBps and I could able to stream all my mobile contents and also video from Chrome browser flawlessly without buffering. Also you tube streaming is nice .It is cheap.Go for it.You wont repent.

Streaming from PCs,tablet etc locally to a TV does not need a broadband internet connection.
You will need the broadband only if you are to access content on the net

Yes exactly,Streaming from a local PC/Phone does not need an Internet connection.
Internet is only needed if you are streaming from Youtube/Netflix/Hulu,etc.

Secondly the videostream app for the PC being in Beta it only streams 720p max and audio is 5.1.

Also if you have an android phone the screen can be mirrored.
On iOS you need separate apps.

Why you guyz agree on chromecast do not require internet connection while casting local video? When i tried it was not possible. When i was casting local video and then i switched off Wi-fi of phone. The picture on screen frezed.

If you switch off your wifi on the phone which is actually the source of playback of the local video how will you get the screen casting on the TV.

+1 to this.

I've not tested this... will try it over the weekend, but from what I've read online Chromecast will not cast without internet. At least that's what I've read on the internet and that's even for local content casting.

I have tested it. While streaming a local content it downloads the player initially so after that it needs only WIFI to stream the content across. To prove this stream your local content once it starts playing unplug the Network cable but keep your WIFI on it will play till the end.

Hi,

Need input on using Chromecast and hence not creating new post.

I am using Himedia 900B as my media player device and have recently bought chromecast, reason for me to buy this was to help family watch movies which are on my media player/computer to another 32" TV which is not on wifi network as doesn't have LAN/Wifi inshort not a smart tv.

Now using Chromecast how can i access my media player or may be computer to watch the content, i did googled and found option by using cast plugin and calling the URL/folder in the browser and can be played.

need to know from users looking for the same or other alternative.

Thanks

Pl.down load "video stream to Google" app. from Google store. Using this you can stream audio or video without using browser window.
