Hi all,
This is my first attempt 'ever' to rip a dvd, so please bear with me.
The app shows the dvd in the drive with the movie name but when i select the dvd drive in the 'source', nothing happens.

No titles show up for selection to scan etc..
If I go by 'open folder' option then it starts scanning the entire set of titles and it goes on for ever.

Is there something i am missing? cheers.

Try AnyDVD to remove the disc encryption. Then run handbrake. I think AnyDVD also has an option to rip movies. You can try MakeMKV also.

Thanks guys. I used makemkv and it ripped with no fuss...mindblowingly simple, i must say. But any suggestions on why the above issue exists? cheers.

Handbrake is one of those powerful pieces of software that it it is very tough to get started with. A while ago, I was trying to simply copy disks to get rid of region coding, and ended up crying for help here. I was advised to use K3B (Linux world here) where simple tasks get done with a click or two, and I have never looked back. Or, to put it another way, I have never looked at Handbrake again! Except for occasional curiosity.

Maybe VLC is just as easy: probably it is.

Thanks sam9s. For now i am settling with not using handbrake for ripping. Sticking to makemkv for ripping and handbrake for compression.

Guess you did not even open the link, ...coz thats what it says as well .... makemkv for ripping and Handbreak for compression ... and it was written ages back in 2011

Boss, no need for hasty conclusions. My original attempt was to use handbrake for 'ripping' as well. All I am saying here is that I am now settling with an alternative for the ripping part. If people have any ideas on 'the above issue' that would be greatly appreciated. cheers.

Don't try to open DVD.First of all copy the Video TS folder to your hard drive (By that way you will rip it faster)Then Click "open file" and give it a path to your folder and it will show the whole movie.
Here there is good tutorial
How to Rip a DVD With HandBrake
Still if you wish to rip it with some good filters try MeGUI.Its one of the best ripper ever.
