Hello everyone,

I hope you're doing well. I’m a Brazilian graduate student working on my master’s dissertation about Indian cinema, focusing on the aesthetic and narrative innovations of classic Bollywood films. A central subject of my research is Sholay (1975), directed by Ramesh Sippy.

I don´t know if the "introduction post" must be just an introduction, but, since I´m writing this, I´m gonna tell a little more about me and why I´m here.

I'm seeking the Eros DVD edition that preserves the film’s original stereophonic audio. There are two key versions that interest me:

  • The DEI/Eros widescreen version, released in the late 1990s, featuring the 70 mm-derived format (cropped from the original 4:3, presented in roughly 1.85:1) and Dolby Digital Surround—or potentially 6-track stereophonic sound in the original cinema release
  • The Eros/B4U director’s cut, running approximately 204 minutes, in the original 4:3 full-frame aspect ratio, which includes extended scenes and retains the uncropped framing from the original 35 mm material

These specific editions are crucial for my analysis of sound design and framing. Unfortunately, they're extremely rare in Brazil (maybe not just in Brazil).

If anyone owns one of these DVDs—sealed, opened, or even just the case—or knows someone who could help me obtain one at a reasonable price (including international shipping), I would be deeply grateful. I'm open to purchasing, trading, or collaborating with fellow collectors and researchers.

Thank you so much in advance for any help, tips, or leads.

Warm regards,
Mauricio
