High Performance - Bookshelf!

Hi Folks,

Just finished a small bookshelf with peerless drivers.

This clever design has an air of quality that extends from its build to its sound.

Though BS is not my personal taste, this really surprised me to change my mind!

Really liked the way it produces the bass frequencies. And for the highs its our proven SR10DT doing the job pretty well.

Just sharing few images below:

Excellent finish. looks great. why woofer/mid bass is not flush mounted?

what drivers are used? crossover?
post details of listening mpressions/
Cost?

Agree with captain. The build looks neat and tidy :)

A cost breakup and further details on components would help all.

Regards,
Antony

Hi,
Just a suggestion. By turning the midwoofer by 90 degrees the width of the cabinet can be decreased a bit which will give a sleek look to the cabinet.

The build finish is good, invite some forum members for an audition, and give a group opinion about its sound quality.

Just my Rs.2/-

Thanks,

N.Murali

that will foul with the tweeter mounting.

Nice build bibin,

Going by the pictures, you have used Peerless - 6.5" Glass Fiber Cone Woofer - M16GJ and SR10DT dome tweeter.

Please throw some light on these points:

The enclosure volume appears to be roughly 12ltrs. Did you select a natural alignment solution for this specific driver for maximally flat bass band.
The tuning freq of the encl.
Is it the crossover the "usual suspect" a 12dB/Oct passive xover.
From the data sheets I find there is a 5dB difference in sensitivity of the drivers.
How did you tackle this. Any other details you would like to mention.

Cheers

Hello rpanand25,

PFB my inline comments for your queries:

why woofer/mid bass is not flush mounted? Those kinda drivers cannot be flush mounted since its already flush to the surface.

what drivers are used? Mid-Bass: M16GJ - Glass Fiber Cone, Tweeter: SR10DT - Fabric Dome
crossover? LP - 1st order, HP - 2nd order, Cut off freq. 2.2Khz
post details of listening mpressions/Cost? I mainly build this keeping GR Research XLS Encore BS in mind because i have personally listened to them very much. I would say Bass response is authoritative since this BS i have used 6.5" woofer, Fs: 40Hz.
In short its more or less comparable with XLS Encore and keeping the cost way below that.

GR Research uses Indian made peerless drivers and may guys love that BS, so i just thought of engineering almost same type here too since all materials (drivers etc) are manufactured and available here.

Anyway heard that our FM titus is back at cochin. Will ask him to audition and post the listening impression.

There is an L-Pad for the tweeter.
Fb: 41.6Hz
Volume: ~17L

There is a reason for that, keeping the tweeter and mid-bass as close as possible will improve imaging. The other way can only add up to the cosmetic appeal.

These are great looking speakers Bijin and i am sure they will be sounding very nice. This can probably prove to be a very good option for the budget conscious people.

This is my take up of GR Research XLS Encore to reduce the cost of importing kits to INDIA for a company which uses very same INDIAN Peerless drivers.

We have good engineers here in INDIA,

Eg. Like FM kanwar designed a Class A AMP which seems to be pretty good. Another guy is Hari Iyer, tcpip etc..

but I felt the trend is always to import and support foreign products!

It's time for a change, realize and showcase the INDIAN engineers potential to the external world.

May it be success or failure, let us try that is the point.

I am leaving the listening impression to someone else. As i told you let FM titus or some others may come and have an audition then let them share their experience.

How are the x-over simulations?
Did you use manufacturer provided data for the sims?

How does the speaker measure in-room?

Excellent speaker bijin. Your hardwork shows clearly

And very true about india having some very superb brains. Soundsgreat aka sreekanth even goes to the extent of developing his own drivers for all his creations
