Hello Gurus,

My budget is 90 to 100 K. I am based in Pune. With my friends past experience, I am contemplating buying Denon 1911 or 2311, Definitive Technology - ProCinema 800 System & Sony or Samsung Blu-Ray player with 3D Capabilities.

What's your opinion & suggestions on combination?

Best place in Pune for shopping these items?

Will above items fit in my budget?

Any other suggestions/guide?

hi
i think you should go and listen to a few products out there before you take the plunge. there are quite a few brands out there. each of them have distinctive sounds which only you can decide which ones you prefer. its best you first choose a set of speakers and then revolve other products to match it. pairing in a system is very important. at that price point the wharfedale diamonds are very popular speakers. there are others - missions, kefs, monitor audio etc. once you've decided on the speakers you would ideally choose an amp to suit it. denon is good. you've got others as well with onkyo, marantz, yamaha. if you go through previous threads you should find a lot of information as well

as for blue ray players im not really sure what the brands are out there and which is the best but again the best thing to do is trust your eyes and your ears

Any specific reason to choose the Dune HD Max because at half that price you can get a very capable Sony / Samsung BDP + an excellent media player from Playon/WDTV/Asus.

Besides pricing , have you auditioned what was quoted? Did u like the sound ? Are you only looking at a sub sat system for the money you are spending? Are you willing to audition many brands ?

So many questions , I am sure if you sit and think you would get many more.

I know it is a one stop solution but poses difficulty when you want to upgrade only one component. Playon HD from AC ryan is a good media player with Internal HDD support. I think it costs approx. 10k, max 15k.

I do not know about region free BDP but something must be there for around 15k (You can get 2 Sony BDPs for each region ) Others can suggest better. There is one thread on Onida region free BDP but I personally do not like the brand.

I have ordered Denon AVR-911 from Amazon through ICCWorld. Fingers Crossed.

Speakers: thinking of Martin Logan. Velodyne SubWoofer. Still Confused. More auditions made more confused.

May not go for Dune HDMAX as 3-D Support is not there.

Am going for the Denon 1911 as well. Auditoned the Wharfs 10.7-liked them, then auditioned the Tannoys,Paradigm cinema 70and 90; went back to the floor-standing fronts and finally the Paradigm monitor 9s which caught my fancy - am going for them with the ADP 190 surrounds and velodyne impact 10 sub !

Iam in the same boat as you are and am torn between the paradigm monitors and Mordaunt short Aviano 8s.. Both ~45k.
Since Iam going through the torture of selecting between them, I thought I will pass on the same to you too..

My audition experiece is surprisingly similar to yours but I have auditioned few other speakers also. Paradigm monitors and Avianos floorstanders are (almost) final shortlists..

Characteristics of Avianos compared to Paradigms I noticed..
- Not as bright or 'shiny' as the paradigm monitor in upper highs
- More extended lower bass. Can survive without sub for sometime.
- Vocals on par with paradigms (very slight edge to the paradigm monitor)
- More details in the midrange
- Looks awesome (Aviano 8 floorstanding speaker) (Personally, I dont have a problm wih the paradigms but worried if the white driver might look like a sore thumb in the long run. It might also be attention grabbing and not subtle.)

Let me know your views.

I quite liked the Wharfs 10.7 when I auditioned them in Chennai and was keen to buy them, but then I listened to the Paradigm Monitor 9s and I changed my mind, so I know where you are coming from.

The 9s seemed to have a bigger sound stage. The clarity in the vocals were superb ( I listen to Indian Classical and film music mainly), the various musical instruments were distinctly heard and on a particular sequence of the mridangam ( am a percussionist myself ) the bass tones really stood out. But a sub is necessary during movie sequences to get that thump.

I don't mind that white driver, sort of adds some colour if you know what I mean! And the grill hides it anyway.

But as I realized from the folks at hifivision and elsewhere, each one to his own and hear your ear!:lol:

One advise, when all things seem equal, go with who will give you better service and support. I used that logic in my purchase, that if I have to stick for 5 years with that speaker, I need someone will stay and help me if anything happens.
