Hii
Finally my dream setup is coming up. Making a dedicated HT Room. I had purchased the HT equipments the ""hifivision way..."" gradually step by step..
I m going to install the following setup.
AVR: Onkyo 609 (I once again thankx Flash for helping me making the right choice :clapping:)
Speakers: Mordaunt Short s Aviano 6, Aviano 5 and QAcoustics QAV as surrounds
Subwoofer: Again :clapping:hifivision ! JBL ES250 from amazon.de
Projector: Optoma HD20 sourced from US.

Well I need some inputs regarding the HT room, screen size etc.. My Room in which I am planning to install the setup is 11.1 feet wide, 14 feet depth (eye to screen) and 9.5 feet high (floor to ceiling) ...
There will be only one Row at the last and may be 1 or 2 bean-bags in the sides...
1.) What screen size should I go for..

The width of the room being 134 inches , I can go for 110 inch (96 inches wide) diagonal or 100 inch diagonal (88 inch wide) screen. as I have to leave about 25 inches for two floor standers also ,, 12.5 inch on either sides.

So its 12.5-----------109--------------12.5 inch == 134 inches
Height is not an issue as I have 9 feet for the screen to mount... :licklips:
Should I go for 100 or 110 or 120 inch diagonal (104+5 inches for black border + 25 =134 inches)

2.) What room acoustic treatments should I do
This HT room is almost a cube 11*14*9.5 , which is the most undesired types for a HT room .. in terms of acoustics (Read it one of the recent threads about acoustics in HFV)

Moreover I will be having a bookshelf with about 50-100 books novels etc,.., IMHO...So I guess that would also work for some amount of sound absorption.
I am planning to fill the ceiling with glass wool and even on one side, precisely LEFT SIde..of the room
On the Right will be the Bookshelf,. (not the speakers ;)) but the real books..

Currently the room has marble flooring,
I can go for wooden flooring only if its has any advantage in terms of acoustics or else a thick rugged carpet should be another option.. Please suggest one out of these 2.

Moreover i am goint to have to stick to floorstanders only for this room as I have already procured them,
So for approx 120 square feet or 1475 cc volume of room, are the FS suitable ..?

Please provide your inputs,, and help me building my dream HT Room. :yahoo:

Just a point of clarification- What is the actual depth of your room? You need room behind you for the surround speakers. Based upon the actual depth-- can provide additional feedback

I would go with thick carpeting-- That will definitely help with the acoustics

For Screen size, try these links.

This site has a calculator built in: Screen Size Calculator

And this one has a link to an Excel spreadsheet for the same: CarltonBale.com ? Home Theater Calculator: Viewing Distance, Screen Size

Room acoustic treatments are typically placed at the first reflection points for your front, left and center channels. Covered 2" or 4" thick (2' x 4') rigid fiberglass panels. Generally 2" thick is plenty for behind your speakers, along the sidewall and on the ceiling, but it depends on your room. For the corners, you can use 4" or 6" panels, mounted across the corner.

From my understanding, thinner treatments, like carpet, drapes or 1" thick rigid fiberglass will absorb higher frequencies fine, but the room will sound terrible because the lower frequencies have been left to wreak havoc on your ears.

ATS acoustics Acoustic Panels by ATS Acoustics, although a US company, is at least a source of some information and an example of the products you can search for in your hometown, be it full panels or DIY.

I did DIY from Ready Acoustics in my basement. I bought ten of their 4" and two 6" frames (my basement had bass issues), and sourced some fiberglass locally as well as material to cover them. If you do DIY, make certain you either purchase NFPA 701 fire rated fabric or treat the material you purchase with a fire retardant.

Acoustic treatments really made a huge difference in the overall balance and seamlessness of my audio system. Now I have moved my system upstairs, and I cannot bring the panels up (the wife will NOT go for that) :D, so I am looking into a new receiver with electronic room correction, because I really miss my room treatments. (I have to sell them, now, too. Which is a pain in the a**! :ohyeah:

Here is a partial pic of my room before I dismantled it:

Acutal depth is 14 feet (eye to screen) , and there will be .5 feet gap at tha back for surrounds or I can even mount them on the side walls such that the speaker faces the ears of the listener .

Note: i had mistakenly mentioned 10.5 feet as depth,,,, its 14 feet from eye to screen

For the record, I agree carpet, heavy drapes etc. can help. It's just that using only
those items will result in poor sound because higher frequencies will be overabsorbed while the midrange and lower frequencies will be left virtually untouched.

Here are a couple more links. (I've been researching this stuff for years) :)

Bob Gold's absorption coefficient charts for various types of fiberglass, etc. http://www.bobgolds.com/AbsorptionCoefficients.htm
2" Owings Corning 703 is typically used for panels, so look for those coefficient numbers in any other product for comparison.

This link: Absorption coefficients of building materials and finishes RT60 alpha coefficient acoustic absorbing material absorbtion - sengpielaudio Sengpiel Berlin provides coefficients for common building and household materials for comparison.

Hii
1.) What screen size should I go for..
Go for 134 inches (max your room can allow). Believe me, larger the screen more the wow factor. And at 14ft sitting distance, it should be comfortable.

2.) What room acoustic treatments should I do
I would suggest to listen to the setup first before spending on acoustics. Since you've marble that reflects more, try for carpet at initial reflection points. And as you are having bookshelves/other obj like sofa/bean bag, that should help to abosorb decent amount of sound.

just my 2cents.

Happy listening:)

I came across few websites which offers Projection screens .. mostly delhi based . I got quotes from them for the following screens.
1. Swastik Projection Screens
100 inch diagonal 4:3format Rs 3500
110 inch diagonal 16:9 format Rs 5500 (INSTA LOCK Type)
110 inch diagonal 16:9 format Rs 12500 (Motorized Type)
2. Cine Udyog
100 inch diagonal 16:9 format Rs 8500 (Motorized Type)
110 inch diagonal 16:9 format Rs 11500 (Motorized Type)
120 inch diagonal 16:9 format Rs 12500 (Motorized Type)
And They have their inshouse production of screens, but not insta lock .. they offer customised size of any format any size screens with spring pull action type screens.
I got the following quotes:
100 inch diagonal 16:9 format Rs 1600
110 inch diagonal 16:9 format Rs 2200
120 inch diagonal 16:9 format Rs 2800

Are these screens any good?? compared to the Liberty screens or other branded ones..
IMHO I hav heard that the screen qcloth is almost the same .. as all the screens are imported from china ,, only difference is in branding and promotion
