Home theatres advise

i can understand and completely agree with what u guys r saying......but within the limitations of my budget n requirements cant we work out the best possible scenario...is 2 lac for a HT room not adequate for a decent setup.....plz post....

2 lakhs is enough and mid level AVR, a good 5.1 speaker set, and wiring. Display is something you have look outside this amount.

Cheers

I feel 2 lacs is sufficient for a very good Home Theater provided you spend wisely. Your room size is not very big and Bookshelf based 5.1 will be enough.

First of Display: Going in for the higher models like Panasonic 4000 or Epson 8700 will eat up 60% of the budget. However, the Optoma HD20 retails for $900 in the US. It can be bought for roughly Rs60000 landed India. Another model Epson 8350 retails for USD1200. Both are very good PJs. But keep in mind their advantages and disadvantages. Optoma is very light and portable while Epson is much more flexible in placement. Budget 60-80k

Screen: Depending on motorized or pull down you should get a good screen for Rs 10-20k.

Source: BDPs (Sony BDP 380) are now under 10k in India if you do want to go for fancy stuff like 3D (no use as your PJ is not 3D). Media player is also available for under 10k like WDTV and Playon. Total spend here is 10k

Speakers: Buying a bookshelf based 5.1 would cost you anywhere between 60-80k again depending upon the series. I have recommended good ones above.

AVR: Most popular ones going around are Denon 1911 and Marantz 5005. Others from Onkyo and Yamaha are also similarly priced. Budget 35k

Set aside Rs 10k for the cables. Installation can be done yourself as long as you have electrician and carpenter at your disposal.

This will add upto 185-225k. Take your pick. Aldo if you can manage to get AVR / PJ from US with someone travelling, there can be huge savings. My HT Cost me exactly 200k that I budgeted for.

PS: Venkat - Why do you feel HT within 200k is a compromise. My HT listed below came for this amount with Display. Agreed equipment is not "top of line", but its not low-fi either.

guys so what do u think for the 2 setups mentioned in my previous posts and which were suggested by Raghav...also how much will thy set me back buy....

Also for the Dedicated HT i am contemplating b/w Optoma Hd20 and Pana 4000......have decided for a PS3 250GB as my media player.......expurts ur thghts on this

Now the 2 models are completely different. Pana 4000 most would say is in a league of its own compared to HD20.

First advantages HD20
1. Costs half the $$$
2. Weighs 60% less
3. Occupies 60% less Space
4. Great Image out of the box.

Pana 4000 advantages
1. Extremely well built
2. placement flexibility as 2:1 zoom
3. Powered Zoom
4. Vertical & horizintal lens shift
5. Brilliant Output
6. Loads of features

Though I would have gone for Pana 4000 the price and portability made me go for Optoma.

read the link.....Mitsubishi and Epson are good contenders.....what say.....also for my room....the distance from the screen to the projector is 15 feet.....approx a 100" screen will fit.....also am ceiling mounting it.....so what would be the best deal and secondly VFM deal.....also ur thgts on my other setups.....

Epson 8350 (USD1140 on bhindia.com + shipping and tax) is good and is being used by quite a few forum members. In fact, Vinay also I think is using the same model. You can get a user viewpoint from him on the model.

Optoma will not cut it for you. As at 15' feet distance it throws a minimum image of 115". For 100" screen it needs to be placed between 11-13 feet

I was looking at the Indian prices and set aside 1 lakh for a projector. That leaves the OP with just 100K for AVR, speakers, cables, source etc.

i am confused b/w epson 8350 and Mits HC4000....my projector is 170" away(throw distance) and at a 92" ht.......planning for a 100" screen......so which one is suitable

guys i checked out with projector calculator pro....n no projector seems to fit within my setup......my screen width max can be 81".......so plz suggest....

Hi Sumit,

For HT,as many said 2lakhs is more than enough for a Home theater system.
We had a offer on Wharfedale speakers & 9.1 are good for movies & music too.9.1 dont have openness in sound but are capable of delivering best considering price.
AVR like Yamaha,Denon goes well with them.

Now Tannoy V1 are new & have better overall sound which you can consider too. They can go with Onkyo & Yamaha well.

There are few 5.1 sets from paradigm, energy which can go with Denon AVR well.Even Q acoustic.
You can visit alliance4 where you can get some nice systems to hear.

For projector, others can help you better.

Epson is highly flexible in placement (being LCD) so no issues using that at all. It has zoom of over 2 plus the image can be moved horizontally and vertically. Thus at three dimensions are flexible.

the HC4000 is not as flexible being a DLP model. However for a 100" screen you can place anywhere between 10 - 15 feet distance. Alternately at 170" aways you go for screen sizes between 94-140". Main issues are regarding height. if you place PJ at 92" the image starts further 16.5" down i.e. at 75.5" from the floor. With a screen height of 50" it will slot in nicely from 25" - 75" from the ground. The middle of the screen will be approx 4 feet from the floor. Now to go with HC4000 you will need to get the measurement accurate. It fits in well and gives you portability also.

If you plan to move around PJ then Epson is better suited.

plz note my max screen width can be 81"......so i think i cannot get more than 93" diagonal.....that's d problem which needs to be addressed....in such a case which projector to go for...

Thats what I also thought. Screen of 100" would be a tight fit. Anyways Espon is not an issue at all. Its has a large scope of adjusment. But mitsubishi the minimum size at 170" distance was 94". You will need make the distance closer by a few inches if you want to go for HC4000

Yes Epson is the safer bet.

However, if you really prefer HC4000, then you need to carefully do your measurements. An inch or so is also possible in the installation. Also are you measuring from the placement of the mount (where you punch the holes in the ceiling) or from the front of the projector. Make the effort only if you want the HC4000 for its portability or DLP. Otherwise safer to stick with the Epson 8350.

Reducing the throw distance is not the possibility....so then shud i go for Epson 8350....

Then you need to measure the distance from the lens of the projector to screen. This will reduce the calculations by a few inches. The HC4000 will be a tight fit for 92" but you will always have the option to go for bigger screen. 92" is the minimum image size.

am measuring it from the placement of the mount...

So, if u see I have decided on 2 media players, 2 BDP's and a console gaming....this will create a variety for me....if u guys can think of some changes which can enhance the syatem in terms of VFm then please do...as in in case there is no need for sub in a bedroom and that money can be utilized somewhere else then y not....also HTiB for a room can be a option....so please do suggest....

also i came across this site for media players...it seems to be a good piece of info on media players available in the market....Guide Buyers Guide for Media Players Streamers comparing features | Missing Remote

Please guys help me on this so that i can upload my setups on the forums just as u guys and move a step ahead on the ladder...

With the help of you guys I have sorted certain things out and so would like ur comments on the following setups for the price range and preferences:

Home theatre room:
PS3:23k
Optoma Hd20:65k
Denon 1911:40k
QA 2020 5.1 speaker set: 63k
Screen (motorized): ? ( approx 17-18k)
Total: 2,10,000

Living room:
BDP: Pana 210(stereo sound), Sony S570(7.1 channel sound, 3D Ready), Sony S580(stereo sound), Samsung BD C6500.. (which is the best option out of these)
Wharfdale 9.5 floorstanders is an option.require it primarly for music.can AVR + 2 FS work out between 35-40k..no subwoofer..which would be the best combo considering the price range and no subwoofer

Bedroom1:
Dune HD max:35k
i need to create awesome musiclater I might add the surround and centre....for now only 2 BS and an AVR......which AVR + 2 front BS combo can work out between 30-35k

Bedroom 2:
Pioneer 610:5k
JBL control now 5.1 set
HK AVR 155
How much will this setup cost me??

Bedroom 3:
BDP base HTS: Pioneer HTZ BD30(17000), Sony Ht-370(22000),Philips HTS-3560 (21000)
which is the best out of the lot
