Hi...i see a lot of posts on tata sky plus hd...but I m really inclined on the reliance digital dvr.
I know tata sky plus has a bigger hard drive...but after various negative reviews here,i think I wikl be better off getting reliance. My main usage is watching and recording Sd channels so I want the PQ to be good. I dont need any hd channels at the moment. So I m okay with the limited channels on reliance. I just need feedback from you guys on the quality and service offered by reliance andas far as I know they also have the cheapest packages. Thanx.

Well if you primarily watch SD channels then yes reliance is a excellent choice its quality is still better then tata sky, airtel, dish tv.
HD channels are limited ,currently you get NGC HD and movies NOW HD(Movies now has ghosting issue) and you also have the upscaled star plus hd which i hear is soon going to be replaced with "asli" star plus HD .

Service is ok,i have airtel too and airtel is no better then reliance.Airtel digital CC are quite rude, they rarely pick up the phone after 11 pm if they do they sometimes hangup.

The reliance software isn't that fast(it was the fastest initially when they had a different UI),so it may hang sometimes. From the 1 month or so that i have owned the HD-DVR, it has hanged once.
You also don't get a HDMI cable.

You might also won't to wait for the airtel HD-DVR it has a rumored 320gb HDD but is the same make as reliance HD-DVR.But airtel SD picture quality cannot match the big tv quality.

Reliance HD DVR is full of bugs that's what Ive heard from the reviews. May be they will rectify after software upgrade.

But no one beats Reliance Digital TV in terms of PQ, its the best even SD channels luk Amazing and they also have the highest no of TP's 12 MPEG-4.

Drawbacks are:

They have the worst logo which is not even Transperent which makes TV viewing irritating in News Channels, Sports channels.

CC is also not quite gud.

They have the option to Add packages online.

No Internet or Mobile Recording.

I've been using reliance HDDVR since last few months and i must say i'm pretty happy with it, though there are few drawbacks specially the slow UI. Also another drawback is when i schedule recording and view the program later, sometimes its not recorded completely as the clock is not in sync with the program ending timings. Another drawback is it takes several seconds to switch of and on.

Thank You guys for the valuable inputs. So i see the UI is very slow. I think i will get use to it after some usage. I m okay with the slow on-off process. I hope the slow UI doesnt affect switching channels every now and then because i m really used to my cable tv and i just keep changing channels randomly and very quickly.

Other advantages that i see on reliance are :
1. Universal remote.
2. Cheap packages.
3. Has all the channels that i need. Tata sky doesnt have a couple of them.

Great PQ is my no 1 reason to choose reliance.

Guys..is it possible to get some discounts on the box if you buy from a dealer or is there a universal price everywhere. If the latter is true, then i will be better off getting it from the reliance outlet.

Dude.. i have one. Please stay away. Its a big time flop. I find airtel far much better then all the others.

hi...thanx for the input. Can you tell me what problems do you face ?

i was considering airtel but their packages are expensive compared to reliance

i been using reliance big tv since time it was launch ,i have 2 connection both from big tv..so far i must say gr8 picture quality and great cc.close u r eyes and go for reliance

How is HD PQ and SQ on Big HD DVR? When is DD5.1 coming to Reliance?

Well no idea about the 5.1 stuff since i don't have a receiver. But from the HDMI the stereo effect is much better or better sounding.
As far as PQ in HD its quite good, obviously it won't match a good HD rip,but its enough to make you want more true HD channels(not upscaled).
Movies Now quality as been improved since the last 2 days.

Btw a small update he ghosting issue Movies Now HD in reliance is now rectified.
I am 99% sure it was some settings issue at Reliance uplinking end. Again, if they would have just been RELAYING the original HD transmission from Times Network, this issue would not have occurred in the first place and you would have got the ORIGINAL PQ. Don't know when will the DTH operators in India stop this adulteration.

i asked about this in other forums, some airtel guys also said they have this issue
