Thanks for ur reply,

R u sure i will get sound from all the 5 speakers if i connect it via rca cables ? Some members are not sure if this will work. And my main concern will be to play movies via usb directly in tv.

Yes,I have used same with my AVR.Almost all AVrs have that option, 5ch stereo or Prologic DSP.

You should get 5.1 as the audio is AC3 6 channels. One think to note is that you should not expect sound from rear speakers always. Rear channel sound depends on the movie situation. You can slightly increase the rear channel volume though to get some boost.

hey i got the all the 5 speakers working , i guess the conversion to ac-3 audio was faulty.
i got a movie with original audio to be ac-3 5.1 dolby digital and it played really well! i could really hear the 5.1 surround effect
plus when i check the signal info on my receiver it displayed: dolby D and channel info was like this ----> 3/2/0.1 which i supposed was 3 for the FR FL C
2 for SL SR and .1 for the SWFR LFE

Hi all,

I am planning to buy Yamaha YHT 196 but i have one confusion. My Tv (sharp LED) has no optical out or coaxial out , but i want the TV sound to play through HTS. Although i have an Analog out (RCA), which i can connect to Analog input of AVR. But i am confused if it will work or not ? and if it does, then its this AVR capable to converting stereo output to surround sound ?

Please help as its the only thing stopping me from buying this

you can always push audio from the television to your HT.
i have a sony bravia KDL-55w800a and it has a bravia sync option.
my connections are like this:
BDP(HDMI OUT)--> A/VR(HDMI IN)
A/VR(HDMI OUT)--> TV(HDMI IN)
both my A/V R and my TV have the capability of the functioning with ARC(audio return channel) YHT 196 has this capability and check your user manual for the television
if they both have the ARC feature then you just need the setup like i have, no need for any other cables, just plugin the HDMIs, tweak your receiver's and TV's settings and you can push TV audio to HTS

i hope you find this information useful :)

EDIT: the other doubt of your's about audio from all 5 speakers, that is also possible.
no matter what source you play using whatever component connect to the AVR, your AVR will be able to play audio from all 5 speakers but it wont give u the 5.1 surround effect as it depends upon the source, though the dolby pro logic II in the AVR gives you virtual 5.1 DD which you can enhance using various DSP programs in HT-196

This is wrong to expect 5.1 output from TV. For the ARC to work, the HDMI cable and port has to be ver1.4c compliant. But its not possible to expect multichannel output with RCA cables. Max stereo is possible.

You can simulate sound to 5.1ch using Dolby PL II DSP, but you don't get surround. May be you get sound from all the speakers but its not surround.

Always connect the source(DVD or STB) directly to AVR and enable the HDMI through to pass the sinals without turning ON the AVR (standby mode).

Let me know your complete setup and I can try to let you know what best is possible.
