Importing subwoofer to india

How will be the calculations if we plan to bring this by some one who is travelling as part of the allowed luggage?
Do we have any default allowed value they can considered to exclude?

Forget the cost.
You will have to deal with:
  • No Warranty
  • 110 volt
Even if you were to get past the voltage issue, the lack of warranty is enough for me to forget about it, knowing that sub plate amps can pop without any tell tale signs. An SVS isn't immune to it either.

Now the manufacturer can say "we will give you warranty" provided you can ship the product at your cost. To me, thats as good as no Warranty.

i guess subwoofers now have switchable voltage. I dont care about warranty

Import duty is approximately 43.96% of item cost with an IEC code. This was last I imported, this may have changed.

If you are asking about costs, and if the subwoofer has a built in amp, then you should care about warranty assuming you want to pay as little as possible.

Can you tell how will custom clearace proces goes? Do they call us or what

This depends which carrier brings the item to India. Some carriers will clear the item for you, all you need to do with them is pay. Others will not and will require you to arrange for a clearing agent.
I called one agent first time he said i need BIS certificate lol it will cost me 3lakhs and i cut the phone

If that is what I think it is, then I don't think you need it for hiring a clearing agent. You may need it for an amp, possibly the amp in the sub. You may need this even if it is cleared by someone else. I will note I have not imported an amplifier or speaker/subwoofer with an amp myself. Hence I have never required a BIS certificate for importing audio equipment.

I can not answer that, you would need to ask the government authorities if it is required, and if so what is the reason. I do know amplifiers need certification because some time ago when I asked a distributor for one he told me he can't offer that amplifier as there is no certification. Whether this applies for a single unit for personal use, I do not know.

I don’t know if BIS is needed, but BIS has nothing to do with being a distributor. BIS stands for Bureau of Indian Standards and is applicable on thousands of imported products. The goal of BIS is to ensure all imported products coming into India meet a certain quality standard, to prevent “dumping” of sub standard products by cheap manufacturers say from China. One big thing this tackled I remember reading was children’s toys.

So yes basically if a product comes under the purview of BIS, if it is being officially imported by anyone, it needs to have been BIS certified otherwise customs can seize it and levy a fine on the importer

Why do i pay 3lakhs for bis i am importing 1 peice for personal use
Some of the electronic goods require BIS certification for ensuring quality standards if imported to India. The thing, the BIS certificate will be issued by the Authorities to Foreign Manufacturer or their representatives/indian subsidairies. It will be issued for a product range and not for individual piece or transaction and might have validity period, after which that can be renewed further Once the BIS is issued to a particular make and model, that product can imported to India by anybody untill its validity allows. The Manufacturer or thier Indian Agents have to apply and acquire the BIS and not by the End user like you.

First thing, please check the make and model you are proposed to import is already having valid BIS, if it is having, you need not to worry about obtaining the same.. You can check with the Indian Dealers of that product about the same. They may not reveal the truth since it affects their business interests.

However, the BIS is certificate is not required for the products brought from abroad for personal use, especially if they are for individual, non-commercial purposes. However, if the product falls under the mandatory BIS certification list and is intended for sale or commercial use in India, then a BIS certificate is required, whether it is imported or hand carried. Some agents are clever and may bring such product without BIS, like misbranding or with varied nomenclature, having their own paid regular travellers, and many other illegal modes.

So, if the intended product does not have BIS and falls under mandatory BIS requirement, then the better option is to get the product into India through some one who is travelling citing as for personal use. This is the usual practice all of we do.

Some of our fellow FMs who have better expereience and Idea on this, may correct me if it is something else or other way out.

oh, but u must. Recently, the plate amp on my Rythmik E15-HP2 gave up the ghost. From discussions online, it seems there was a problem with the capacitors of the batch made in and around 2022. Rythmik comes with a 3 year warranty and the sub gave up around 30 months into its lifecycle. I shudder to think if there was no warranty!
