Hey Guyz,

I am planning to set up a 3D home theater system in my basement.. :yahoo:
So PJ gurus, please help me with the below information:
1. Should I go for TW8100 or TW6100 would be just sufficient for my basement
2. I want huge screen (at-least 130"), wall size 10ft X 15ft.
3. Currently the wall is just finished with Birla White Putty, how much difference would it make with a good screen (say pioneer) or we have any special paints as well?
4. Which player to buy to watch 3D movies. Is Blu-ray player really necessary?
Can I also download 3D movies online and play it from my laptop (windows 7, core i5) to the projector. If yes, what extra software/hardware would be required.
5. Experienced users: How good are these projectors for gaming (lag)?

PS: I already have a 5.1 sound system and I would mostly be watching movies (70%) and some gaming, xbox (30%)..

The light output is 2200 lumens vs 2300 lumens. Not much difference. But 8100 has huge boost in contrast, black level and overall picture.

Both will be quite fine.

Short term its fine. But long term, you should use a screen or atleast a surface that's flat, blemish free. If you want to save money and diy, a cloth or laminate screen is way more flat compared to a wall. If you are investing 1 lac+ in a projector, it makes sense to spend some money on a screen.

You need bluray player for playing 3d blurays. If only intent is to play downloaded movies, then either a media player or 3d capable laptop/pc is needed.

For playing SBS/TNB 3d movies (half resolution) any player will do. You can use media player classic home cinema. For playing 3D bluray movies, you need PowerDVD etc.

Epson projectors have quite a bit of lag. I think like 100 ms. DLP projectors are better in this regard. [quote[

All the best.

If you are building a dedicated home theater, don't bother with the wall paint. Good quality fixed PJ screens are pretty cheap and will give you much better Image than any paint will.

About epson projectors lag, it's a little improved in the newer PJs (ie 8100 and 6100 compared to 8000 and 6000). Its now 50-60 ms instead (as long as you turn off a couple of image processing features). Epson 5020 & 5020e Home Theater Projectors

So unless you are a pro level gamer, there's a good chance that it won't affect your gaming capabilities.

For bluray player, a ps3 seems to be a good bet. It's cheap enough and if you spend 3000 a year on psn you get tons of free games. Just try to get in as soon as possible. They add a few free games every month and remove them a month or two later. If you miss them, you won't be able to get them for free. Once downloaded, you can use the games for as long as you have an active psn account.

I'm also planning getting a tw8100 soon. It certainly seems to be the best projector in its price range (especially in India).

Edit: I'm not sure if the ps3 can play downloaded 3D blu ray rips though. Please confirm this before you pull the trigger on this.

To fit a screen of 130" may be problem because of the room width and moreover there will be a scope of tower speakers blocking some of the image area of screen, especially the bigger format of movies.

To have a screen is better then painting the wall.
