I am looking for a laptop. I went to Croma, Vijay Sales and Staples today. I could see my reflection in all laptop screens. All the helpful(!) salespersons ( i should say salesmen, there was not a single female staff in the laptop section, so much for equal opportunity) vouched that there are no matte finish laptops anymore.

Is this true, do i have to live with seeing the reflections of everything thats behind my shoulders.

I am looking for a 15 inch LED screen (another enigma is the LED LCD screen - what does it mean?) and budget is around 40K. Any suggestions for matte finish laptops with good keyboard.

Regards

I looked really hard at all the screens and i could hardly find any innovation. They might as well put a 15 inch mirror instead of an LED screen.

Online is not helping - hp has terms like radiance, brightview etc etc. I cant figure out (can guess though) whether these refer to matte or glossy. Same with others.

I think i will buy the glossy ones and put some cellotape to cut the glare.

my vaio is managable...

Glossy screens have a reflective coating This reflective nature gives higher degrees of brightness and contrast. Colors really seem to pop with glossy screens. However, due to their reflective nature, the view on a glossy screen will frequently be polluted by glare from other light sources.

With matte screens the user can almost visualize darkness between individual white pixels. To many people they perceive this as a grainy appearance. Glare is greatly decreased, at the cost of reduction in contrast and brightness. Subtle degrees of saturation are better perceived with the matte screens. ... web says.

i hate matte screen unless it is office laptop ..i have seen bigger matte panels i never liked them ..the matte ness is visible all the time ! huh!

The only laptop I like with shiny silky skin wears skimpy clothes. Real men prefer matte for real work ... But one has to enjoy the shiny stuff to feel like a real man as well (sips Tiger Lipton chai and twirls moustache)...

Well I have a query related to Cellphone Screen so I thought it would be good to post in this thread only. :)

I have a Samsung I9000 Galaxy S and the Super Amoled screen is way too bright even at the lowest setting and is hurting my eyes too much. :( So much so that I am thinking of selling it just after 3-4 days!

There are screen protectors which turn the glossy screen into matte and claim to filter 99% of the UV rays and stuff! Will these be of any help? If yes then which 1 to go for? Anti glare screen protectors or screen protectors with mirror finish?

@ TC

Even you can try Anti glare matte screen protectors on glosy screen to prevent glare incase you cant get matte screen from any brand! :)
