Listening Impression - Shanti's System

I had the privilege of listening to Bhagwan's setup.

It was not pre decided but it was last minute decision

Everytime I have been to that side of Bombay to listen to a members setup, its always special. This is because apart from having terrific experience musically I was able to check out some good bikes and cars.

last time it was Dinyaar Bhai's Honda Fireblade and this time it was Bhagwan's remapped Rapid

First about the music.
First of all Bhagwan has no air and ego specially considering what he has achieved and to what level I am. He was all the more ready to discuss about any topic and willing to explain any query I had

I am sure most of us are familiar with his setup which consists of Cadence Canasya monoblocs, TAD bookshelves, PC based transport. I have forgotten the name of the DAC, cables

We listened to tracks mostly which were vocal centric (male and female both) and some western classical involving a single instrument (violin?)

The way the music was created was just jaw dropping. Everything was so balanced, all the instruments and vocals in the track were effortless to make out. The way the music was flowing was very engaging. The music had right amount of weight , extra ordinary details and very smooth

The overall setup was so transparent and resolving that even a novice like me could detect a change in sound when pre to power interconnect was changed.
For many of us, it gets very difficult to distinguish in sound when a cable is changed

All what is achieved by bhagwan is all the more commendable when one sees how much space he has to play with. Speakers are barely 2 inches away from backwall, still there was no bass boom at all even when the speakers are rear ported and with that the sound was also not thin

Whole roon has many paintings on the wall and so more reflections due to the glass on the frame.

The stage had very good depth and width and it felt as if the setup was actually in a much bigger room for the kind of stage was created and how instruments were placed on the stage

As of now I cannot think about any negatives about his setup. Maybe few years down the line, I would have gained enough experience to suggest him or any other audiophile some changes in their setup to make it sound more better :)

One more thing about his setup is that as good as his equipment is there is matching source material as well which is very well recorded. He has some insane number of albums (digital and in physical format)

This is one thing I have noticed with all FM's I have visted who have well sorted out setups that they have equally good collection of source material also.

All the setups I have heard have their own unique flavor and are top notch in their own regard

After the music session was done Bhagwan graciously showed his Skoda Rapid to me. I was more interested to look and feel the custom made seats he had installed. Later on, I came to know that he had also done a remap and installed a full fledged free flow exhaust

As expected the car drove extremely well and had a great sound too (emgine sound). I guess only a person like Bhagwan would have the balls to fully exploit the capabilities of the car in narrow lanes of Bomaby. The ICE on the car was also super good in its on way. Very well setup with zero vibration at insane volumes and sub is superbly integrated. You don't actually come to know a sub is there in the boot

All FM's I have visited till date have been gracious enough and very good hosts and Bhagwan was no different

I again thank him for giving me an opportunity to listen to his setup

Also thanks a lot Joshua for driving me to and fro

Thanks Rikav for your open comments, yes of course you have told the negative too..

In a way, yes because not so good recordings wont be helped in any way and it will actually sound all the more bad

About the paintings what I meant was that even with so much glass on walls which should have negative impact on sound, there was actually not much

Sirjee,

May be i do not know how your DAC integrated/configured. Can't you use USB interface between PC and the DAC which will also help you playing Hi-Res.

Regards
Venu

Sir,

A few things;

a]
My DAC is a Studio DAC
It does not have any USB inputs.
Only AES/EBU & that too on a D Sub Connector
Details are here :-
DAD - AX24 AD/DA Converter

b]
I use a RME Sound Card - AES 32
RME: Hammerfall DSP AES-32

c]
I have slaved the 2nd PC to the DAC - a master clock connection is in place.

Hope all this clears a bit of what you asked.

Sad Day for me;

My Pre - Allnic & Power - Canasya / Sold & Delivered.

I am without Music.

Now the hunt starts for a 'suitable' replacement - need a good Tube Pre & Power.

I am open to suggestions...

Thanks,

p.s. The Allnic & Canasya will drive PMC's in Mumbai - Local Sale.:licklips:

Why oh why? :sad:
How did this come to pass? :confused:

I am sure something bigger and better will replace the already brilliant pre and power

The new owner is surely going to relish them for a long time to come

Bhagwanji, all the best for the search

Probably Under-realised with PMC speakers...

The full Potential for these Mono Blocks probably wont shine thru ....

Oh yes. that's probably a given, but the interim period without music. That's sad.

Yes, all the best.

I am not sure - what I am doing;
100 % Confused...
The CC is a Super Product - even after it has gone - I will miss it.
Really liked it a lot.

Now, the bad part is - no Music - like right now - 0730 am is my morning music time - till 0930 [2 hours] &
I am on the computer instead - what a waste;;;;
Much rather listen to music - however, that is not an option to explore any more - truly disheartening.

Will work on options.
BAT - REX II is top of my list - financials is the only deterrent. 45/-K is too steep for me.
REX II POWER | Balanced Audio
I have liked this product for several years & each time I listen to it - I like it more and more.
May have to look at other 'watered' down options.
Search is on - let me see where it takes me - fingers are crossed.

Thanks for the concern & comments - I appreciate it.
:)

@ Sidvee - I have heard Lamm a few times - but it never moved me - sorry;
Very Few American Tube Amplifiers have 'the magic' [although this is Russian - made in Brooklyn] !

Partially True;
The Buyer has currently bi amped it with the Bryston 4B SST's
The Room is Raw & the Power Supply is even more raw.
Lots of work needs to go in - to make the Allnic & CC Play up to its potential.
All said, the PMC's are not bad - same model as the one I sold my Accuphase too;
Strange Coincidence - would you not say ? Both my amplifiers are driving the same speaker - one in Black - Accuphase & 1 in Cherry - Allnic & CC !
I just realised it - while typing this message...:D

In fact the CC's would be more suited to :-
MB2 SE | PMC Loudspeakers
If the buyer wants to 'upgrade' at all !

Firstly, let me make it be known, that buying stuff from Bhagwan has been a truly wonderful experience. It all started when I first went over (like so many others) to experience first hand what so many people had described with so many superlatives. Being an inexperienced and a complete novice in most things high end, I experienced for the first time, among other things, a super vertical & horizontal soundstage, depth, air, space, and most of all happiness. Having grown up and having being fed music - mostly progressive jazz and seventies/eighties rock since I was a kid, I never had anything close to doing justice to those great artists. Bhagwan is soooo serious about his hobby, he takes it upon himself to educate, share and improve your listening experience. All you need is a willingness to listen and understand (in my case, it's been too much too fast). So when I heard that Bhagwan was contemplating "moving on" through KJ, I slept a few restless nights, thinking, "what if?". For Bhagwan I guess it's been a case of being married to Scarlett Johanssen for a few years, and now the excitement of the "newness" is on the wane......Bhagwan sorry if the analogy is in bad taste....yeah so he was a thorough gentleman in the entire sale process, totally transparent and straight forward and an absolute pleasure to deal with. But most of all, it has been the help. Bhagwan gave me some very serious consulting sessions on wiring etc (which will be undertaken on a priority), he has lent me some super cables, till I get my own + some personal visits to see that his babies are in good hands (like you may want to move on from Scarlett, but you don't want her landing up with Shakti Kapoor now, do you), again sorry for that analogy Bhagwan. So yes, a truly wonderful experience it has been acquiring these beauties, thanks to Bhagwan. I look forward to many nights of having Billy Cobham and Al Jarreau performing live for me in my living room.....and I wish Bhagwan finds something even better soon to fill up his days with his one true love......an evening of pure unadulterated music.........

Dear Ozzstriker,
Thank You for the kind words;
The pleasure was 100 % mine.
It is a 'high' for me to set up - audio for others - making a room sound 'better' is a 'challenge' & I enjoy the fun associated with it.

On my front - I am not so sure if I will 'improve' on what I had;
Trust me the CC is a Super Product & I really have high regard for it.
I may not be in a position to move up - maybe a side move - if I am lucky, else, it could be a 'step down' for me - that is how it is looking like - right now.
Let me take a 1M Vacation - freshen up & then get back to audio with a blank slate & decide what I want to do.

In the mean time - enjoy your Pre & Power...:cool:
All the Best !
