Hi,

I'm planning home theatre for living room which is ready for false ceiling. I have very little knowledge regarding audio systems so forgive my ignorance. The room size is around 14 X 28. Its has got marble flooring and glass doors on two sides which is not acoustically friendly as per my understanding. I'm trying to achieve dolby atmos 7.1.2 or 7.1.4.

The dilemma I'm facing is what type of speakers is ideal for this kind of room. Is it FS, on-wall, in-wall? I dont prefer much of acoustics treatment and alter it much.

I would like your suggestions

Hi,

When you say 7.1.2, it implies that your HT/AVR should have minimum of 9.1 channels means, 2 front, 2 surround, 2 surround back, 1 centre, 2 heights & 1 Subwoofer.

Also, your research should start with the system as in which brand & which model & what all components you want in your system. This again will be based on your preference as in more of movies or more of music.

Once you pick a system, choose speakers based on power, sound & usage.

Good Luck!

With the marble floor and glass doors and no treatments, the sound is going to be a reverberant mess, so it doesn't really matter what type of speakers you get (you'll be hearing their reflections more than the speakers themselves). Rather than waste money on good quality speakers, better to get inexpensive in-wall and in-ceiling speakers.

Mount three of the speakers around ear height in the front of the room. Mount another pair at your sides and another spread out behind you (all 4 surrounds should be a foot or two above ear height).

As for Atmos, if you're doing only 2 overhead speakers, then put them in the ceiling slightly forward of main listening position (about 80 degrees elevation). If you're doing 4 overhead speakers, then mount each pair roughly 45 degrees elevation forward and rearward of the listening position.

Sanjay,

Good to read your thoughts on the forum after a long gap. Did a search for you posts and browsed over a few.

Been meaning to setup a proper ht for over 3 years but monetary constraints ruled otherwise. on topic, i have placed an order for marantz 7010and will be getting one shortly.

I have a false ceiling in my living room where my ht will be. Can most ceiling speakers be installed in a 45 degree elevation and if not how much of a loss of impact / immersion would my 50 year old ears register

Also, there are a lot of thoughts on the net on atmos enabled speakers ones that fire into the ceiling and reflect back into the room. great it if works. What are your thoughts on the subject vis-a-vis speakers on the ceiling.

Not sure I understand what you're asking. Ceiling speakers can be installed anywhere, at any elevation you want.

When set up properly, which isn't as easy as it appears, upfiring Atmos speakers can sound very good. Personally, I'd use them only if I couldn't figure out a way to mount speakers above me (my preferred choice).
