Hi,
This is my first post as I want to build an amp for home. I chose LM3886 build given by circuitbasics. This design is very good but the BOM includes all premium components especially the signal input capacitor. It suggests Mundorf evo oil 4.7uf cap. I read that this is boutique grade capacitor and really make difference when compared to budget MKP/MKT caps. In India the price is pretty high (~2000 INR). How much of this claim is true? What decides attributes of a capacitor to be used in audio circuitry?

Boutique and subjective go together, audiophiles cant get enough of boutique things.
Below is from Bruno Putzey, the ultra low distortion class D amp Guru. His latest class D design has better distortion specs than the best class A/B amp for the same money. Of course, many may differ from this 'opinion'. I would happily change my opinion if somebody shows a measured difference between caps in between 20Hz and 20Khz.

Also for preamp here I think if I take NE5532 based local preamp module it could compromise the overall goodness of the system. Do you suggest anything else that would not destroy/color the input?

It depends on the schematic used, the gain used, power supply filtering and bandwidth set. No harm trying and checking all these, you could also swap with higher specd OPA series op-amp, chances of sound improvement will be immeasurable though

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
