During a recent visit to a friend's home, I was incredibly impressed by their home theater setup.

I am from Chennai, I'd like some guidance on the essential components and accessories I'll need. Where would you recommend I go to buy these?

7.1.2 in your budget is little difficult but you need to find a good deal to squeeze those speakers and ARV in your budget. are you planning for dedicated room or a living room setup and what is the room size?

An AVR that supports 7.1.2 will cost around 1.2L. For 80k you will get only average speakers and sub. Better to plan for a 5.1 set up in that budget. Else go step by step. First go for a 5.1 system. Denon 3800 and Polk HTS series.

Thanks for your quick response. Planning for living room set up. Living room area will be around 200 sq ft. So I should go for 5.1? What would be your kind suggestion?

There are many multiple options we all can suggest, but everything is according to your budget. If you can stretch to 3 or 3.5 lakh, then you can go for 7.1.2 or 5.1.4 with a good sub and speakers. The other option already suggested 5.1, so your budget is perfect.

If you are fine with a used one, then I think there is a unit for sale in the the classified section; you can go and check it. If you can't stretch the budget, then pre-owned is the way to go.

Yes I can stretch upto 3 if I can set up decent 7.1.2.
Sure let me check the classified as well

As @Love4sound said, 200 sq. ft needs more power, and if you can stretch to 3 lakh, then go with 3800h; you will get around 1 lakh, then a good sub-1 lakh, and the rest of the speakers for 1 lakh. My suggestion is that instead of 7.1.2, you go with 5.1.4. This is more seamless integration than 7.1.2. Maybe later, if you have an external amplifier, you can add another 2 channels, but squeezing 5.0.4 speakers in 1 lakh is a bit tricky. Polk E Series prices went so high, then the T Series are within this budget, they are okey not great speakers . Try finding good dealers.

Then what is your source? Do you have Apple TV or any Android player that supports Dolby? If not, you should buy that too. Then other expenses are interconnects, HDMI, speaker cables, banana plugs, etc.

I can stretch upto 3 lakhs.
If 3L only for audio equipment then a decent 5.1 set up can be achieved later on you can expand to a good 7.1.2 set up. Denon 3800 should be available within 1.1-1.2L. Rythmik LV12M or PB 1000 pro within a lakh or a dual Polk HTS 12 assuming it’s going to be a dedicated room. So this eats up 2L and for remaining 1Lakh many budget series speakers are available. Polk, JBL and few more brands

Thanks for the solid advice.

Planning to get Apple TV

I spent slightly more for 5.1.4 setup.
Denon 3800: 92k
1 Polk mxt30: 16k
2 Polk mxt20: 24k
4 Taga 290r: 20k
Svs SB-1000pro: 68k
Total : 220k

For rear surround I used my old yamaha speakers. You can budget another 15-20k for those.
So not under 2l but definitely possible under 2.5l
I can refer the shop if you want but its in Delhi
