Hi All: I recently bought a Marantz SR-6008 receiver from Magnolia for a great price of $799 (normally $1000+ I think). I'm planning to use it for a nice (but not super deluxe) HT setup, including either Polks or Definitive Mythos all around.

Last week, Amazon had a steal on the Yamaha RX-V675 for $299, so I picked it up just in case (figuring I can return if necessary).

The price difference of $500 is substantial. I really like Marantz, but for a home theater, is the Yamaha sufficient?

The Marantz has a better room correction thingy, Audyssey. It trumps Yamaha's YAPO IMHO.

I would choose marantz. I have Yamaha 6030, and I know it's totally different then Yamaha 675. But I if you are music listing fan, go for marantz.

I'm also looking new receivers. And I heard Yamaha last week, I didn't liked so it didn't changed my thought for Yamaha.

I've had both the brands and they both are great. If your main activity would be watching movies, you can go with Yamaha. They are great at music as well. Marantz provides you a more polished sound but if you are into boom-boom movies, they might feel a bit mellowed. Audessey is probably a mite better than YPAO in room correction but YPAO's no slouch either, it will do the tric.

Long story short, if $$ matters and movies are your mainstay, you can go with Yamaha.

Oh and BTW, between your speaker choices, go for Def Tech :)
