MKV file Problem

Hi there, i own a LG LX9500 3D tv and a LG Bluray player BD550 which is connected to my onkyo S3300. just downloaded 3D movie from Torrentz which has an .mkv extension. When i try playing from my 3D tv, gives an error saying cannot be played properly and plays the movie without sound. When i tried playing it from Bluray player it does not play at all. (BTW i am connecting my seagate goflex portable HD). Tried googling and came across that LG does not support 5.1 DTS, but my Bluray player has been signed as 5.1 DTS, dolby digital. Can anyone suggest a solution. thx

There is a known problem playing mkv files on some players- a friend for example can't play them on his Popcorn Hour A 110, but I can play them on my A 200. I dont think there is a solution unless your player has a firmware upgrade that fixes this problem.

I have taken this .mkv file and am converting it with Total Video Converter. Which format should i select,a DIVx avi or a Xvid so as to keep the resolution intact.
