Hi,
I had a dream setup in my mind for the AV setup in my house. I hope you guys can help me out by giving some options to choose from. I know that I need to take an audition before finalizing but getting the options to choose from, according to my requirements would be helpful...
1.I already have a Samsung UA40D5500 and Samsung BD c5500 BluRay Player with me. All I need to add to this is an AV Receiver and Speakers. I also have Creative Inspiron 4.1 Speaker system.
2. My Budget, at the max is 1 lac. can't stretch beyond that.
3. My requirements are more of music- say 70% music and 30% movies and TV Series.
4. I wanted to go for Bose but then realized that I should give other systems a try as well.

Now to the main point-
1. In the receiver, I would prefer an iPod Dock, to play my music so that I can directly connect my music collection to it. I would also prefer to use my TV as a screen for my macbook pro as well
2. Can I create a system where I can connect the AV receiver to my creative setup as well so that I can use these speakers in other room? This way, I can have 2 rooms with music system.
3. Should I go for a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker system? I would be keeping a dedicated room for Home Theatre.

What are the Additional features that I should look into a Receiver? I want to keep my iPod, Macbook, BluRay Player and Speaker System all connected to the same receiver.

Plz help.

hi,
Denon AVR1911 AVR
7.1ch. HD Surround DTS-HD/Dolby True HD, 3D support, HDMI 1.4a, Audioreturn Channel, OSD, Audyssey MultiEq, HDMI Up-Scaling,Multizone Amp,Assignable amp, ipod dock.
Speakers u can go with Tannoy - MercuryV4+VC+VR with velodyne impact 10. also keep some budget aside for cables 10-15%

I checked with JBL and took a demo from them. The sound quality of JBL Studio speakers was good. Would be going with fllorstanding and bookshelf speakers instead of sattelite speakers.
I want good options for AVRs. Wouldn't it be better to go for a 7.1 channel supporting AVR for future use?
Please suggest some other options. I intend to finalize everything in the next 2 weeks.

I want to setup a home theatre in my new home. We have dedicated room of size 30ft X 20Ft height 11ft. I need 7.1 speakers. I have heard about 2 amplifiers being used in home theaters and powered speakers i am looking at brands like KEF and Defnitive for speakers. and sun fire for receivers and amps. JVC for 3d projector please suggest the best one. Budget not a issue. Also tell me where to buy from.

ok...will try 1911...but one thing that i wanted to know...i would be buying speakers from a different dealer and AVR from a different one...
Should I buy an AVR just like that and if i am taking a demo, what should i test? Also is it fine testing the ABR on a different set of speakers?

once ur happy with features of the AVR try to audtion with different set of speakers and feel the difference and fine tune ur choice.. no harm in buying AVR and Speaker in different places, for the avr there is a group buy offer going on the hifi forum just see if u can join, its a good deal

IMHO, in 100k, you won't find a satisfying solution for a 7.1 or a good enough 5.1 setup for your musical centric listening.

If your music preference is that much higher than movie watching, you better go for a really top of the 2.0 setup with a good 2ch amp, an able cd player and a DAC.

7.1 AVRs are turning out to be expensive for me with ranges starting from 40k for Harmon Kardon and Denon.... But I am confused if I go for a 5.1 Supported AVR, it might not be future proof if I wish to go for additional 2 speakers ...
Gawd !!!This is so confusing... :(

@ madhurkishore ........ some queries ....

1. You say, your budget is @ 1 L for AVR and speakers ....
2. Whats your room dimensions?
3. Where are you based?
4. 70% music and 30% movies ... right?
5. What genre of music you listen to? ... Western/Hindustani classical, instrumental, jazz, pop, ghazals, bollywood etc etc

1. Yes my budget is 1 lac for both AVR and Speakers
2. My room dimensions would keep on changing as i live in a rented apartment.
However the current dimensions are 10X8 ft
3. I am based in Ahmedabad. We have a ProFX adn JBL showroom here which I have explored. I found the JBL Studio 190 speakers good.
4. Yes
5. Lots of Instrumental, Alternative Music. No Metal or HardRock for me...

10 x 8 room can only justify satellite speakers .... not even bookshelves. For @ 150 sq ft floor area, both satellites and bookshelves are ok.

JBL Studio 190 are BIG speakers .... no way you can even think on those lines, as of now.

Check .... if the JBL stores possess Control 1 speakers ... then, you may go for 2 pairs of Control 1s (Front + Rear) ... for centre it would be JBL Control Now speaker. You don't need a sub for this size room. You may buy later.

Look at 5.1 AVRs only ..... choices ... Denon / Yamaha / Pioneer. The entire stated would cost < @ 50 k.

Your room size is a bit too small to get the meat out of any bigger units and enjoy it too.

Dear MK,

You will find lot more options in Ahemedabad than those you've mentioned. Other than ProFX and JBL, There is Pavilion for Onkyo and allied brands like Energy, MKsound, Elac. The show room I guess is near SAL. You'll find Cambridge, Merdaunt at Rhythm Solutions which is on satellite road. On CG road you'll find Bose and Yamaha AV Square (near Tomatoes) . Also, there is Loud and Clear near Rock Regency. Mr. Karan Gandhi of Loud and Clear is a great guy. I think they are Gujarat authorized dealer / distributors for Jamo. You'll find Whafedale and other brands too at Loud and Clear along with denon AVRs. Also near Jadeblue, you'll find Vibrations. He too deals in brands like Wharfedale and AVRs of Marantz and many over brands. Not too long ago, he had helped one of our forum member "wavetingle " in his home theater. (Check out his thread "wet eyed post " for details) . There is also anoher place Theaterz for U on sG highway. Also at Vijay Sales and Sales India you may find a few god deals.

Al the best.

P.s. I guess its a ripe time to update my tread AV Dealers inGujarat as riht now, I find atleast three members of the forum from Gujarat in process of purchase.

Guys, Finally I have my own HT system.
Speakers- JBL Studio 120 center, 130 Bookshelf and 180 Tower Speakers
AVR- Denon 1911

i would like to thank all of you for the support that you have provided to me in making this dream purchase...required a lil help from your side-
1. Any precautions I need to take before the usage...One of my colleagues mentions that I should play the speakers at low volume for sometime (around 100 hours) and after that I can play at high volumes.

2. The cables for speakers- I need to get speaker cables for the rear speakers. Is there something that I need to take care of for the cables as well? Copper, Tin , etc etc...I dunno these many technicalities.

3. I am feeling that the sound from these speakers is not exactly like the sound I had heard during the demo. Is it because the speakers have not been used a lot yet...and after sometime they would improve in sound quality or Is it my illusion?

Would be of great help if you could help me with these queries.
Thanks.
