My Nakamichi 482z Deck has created a problem recently with the Forward and Rewind functions. While the 'Play' mode works perfectly, when pressed the Forward or Rewind, the idler motor spins for 2-3 seconds and stops. I see that the motor receives the voltage for few seconds ( 10v ) and then goes off. What could be the problem ? Any clues ?

Thanks for the reply. The rubber roller appears all good. The idler motor stops after 2-3 seconds. No voltage seen on the motor terminals. My guess is , it is either some contact ( leaf switch ) or motor power board problem. What’s causing the voltage to drop ?

If the motor is working, then it seems it doesn't have any problem. Then the problem is with some other timer or the motor control board. I am not sure what exactly, but you can look at the motor control board.

If the idler tyre is damaged or stuck due to age, then also this problem will happen: the motor will slip, and it will stop after a few seconds. If it looks good, then fine.
