Hi all,

Looking at the way our beloved forum is growing from strength to strength , I feel its high time we have additional moderator(s) to look after the efficient functioning of the forum & do the job of moderating to the best of his ability. Suggest each one of our regular members to nominate a name for the post & based on which the super mod may start a poll & evaluate the person(s) with the maximum votes & their abilities.

Yes, it would make sense if the person(s) nominated are regulars & have a certain 'X' number of reputation points to make their case strong for the post.

What say fellow members:cool:

Hi Hydra & Srini,

No harm in putting forth the query. Our forum is growing quite fast & sooner than later we definitely WILL require more Mods.

Absolutely no harm Denom in putting , but it seems nobody is willing to hear that request:)

The OP of the thread (the one hydra linked to, not *this* thread) was asking for ridicule. One needs some serious chutzpah to start with "This forum is not run well ...". Why not try and explain what you believe is wrong and then reason out how having more mods will help.

If you still get those communist dreams where everything runs with 100% efficiency and there is no wastage, where everyone is a *model* citizen, maybe its time to throw away those diapers.

I am not saying that everything is right with the forum, but I am not sure how having more mods will help.

Cheers

I will point out one from my end. Will it add to the value.

well there are few forum members i know who are inactive on our forum but their caliber in A/V world is topnotch, since they don't have reputation points, you mean to say they cant perform MOD duties?

Availability, neutrality and tolerability are more important than knowledge when it comes to Mods

Denom,
We have had this topic arise in the past several times. I agree with you that we need more moderators but we discuss a lot and the thread usually turns into a suggestion/complaint thread and then there is no outcome. What is supermod's view on this?

About proposing someone, do you have someone in mind? I had proposed spirovious last time around and would like to propose spirovious's name again and also our ever helpful Kittu:).

Denom: well the forum need's active moderation, in terms of functioning..where as the current active moderators are professor's....they let the classroom on their own.....when they are in mood to moderate, they contribute their lessons in form of warnings and banning ...they dump their knowledge, instead of moderating the forum members post's...?

Musicmaya,
I beg to differ from you on the point you are making about moderators participating in discussions and sharing their knowledge. A forum thrives on knowledge. But for our hunger to learn and share on topics interest us, we would not keep coming back to the forum. Everyone must try and contribute, moderator or not.

Denom is only making a suggestion on the criteria and I think it is a good one. Reputation points mean a person has actively shared his knowledge and others have thanked him for it. So, that person is popular and may be considered for a moderator's position. Whether that person can handle moderator's responsibilities, very difficult to judge by reputation points. There might be other's on the forum whose caliber is topnotch, but of what use is knowledge that is not shared? What according to you should be the deciding factor?

Hi all,

Purpose of this thread is to not start any mudslinging match. We need more active mods to help ease the burden of the most active mod currently & hence we collectively should nominate a member amongst us to do the needful.
So let us all nominate our choice :)

Santhosh, thanks for being the first to nominate your choice (spirovious)

I too would like to nominate Spirovious :)

Based on our nominations a poll will be added to finalise the members most nominated & then the supermod may chose from there.

Let us all work towards this effort :)

we need moderators to participate in meaningful topics rather than one sided views..

Not necessarily.

moderators of a forum like this will always be enthusiastic members first. That means they have a love for the subject, and for the forum. There is certainly a possibility that that sort of person will have some strong views too, and, of course, one person's strong views, is another's ... ... ...

If being a moderator curtails a member's enjoyment and participation in a forum, and means they can't express their views, which is what they joined to do, then who on earth would want the job?

Moderators must feel free to be members!

My view, and experience elsewhere, is that a team of moderators works. best. It is vital, of course, that they have sufficient common ground to form a team, and that common ground will be the common ground of the forum itself. However, decisions and policy are subject to a peer review. It's a system that works.

I'm writing this here ... but it is about forums in general: I'd say the same anywhere.

I am proposing that moderators should be chosen subject wise , as no enthusiast can have all round knowledge ( my exception , I have half baked knowledge on many subjects ,serves no purpose)

1) For general 2 channel audio ( non vinyl) I support Denom. He is one person constantly visiting dealers across Mumbai and updating us. Arranged some really nice group orders. And he contributes constantly, readable and understandable stuff .
2) For vinyl I think ,I cannot think better person than Malvai ..regular contributions and quality stuff. Being a writer and ad person really helps. What I like is that he can guide you well WITHIN YOUR BUDGET and understanding you. Crazy vinyl collector , crazier knowledge!
3) For AVR and Home theatre we need a person with specialized knowledge . I suggest Dr. Spirovious and Santol ( Santosh ) for that .

I HOPE ABOVE GUYS WILL FIND TIME IN THEIR BUSY SCHEDULE.

Disclaimer I am NOT claiming I have no relation with these guys or I do not know these guys personally. I know them VERY WELL as friends. And yes I spent some really fantastic time drinking with malvai and denom. ?)

The moderators do not have to be senior gurus or experts or even specialists. They need skills in fairly enforcing rules and in people handling. Technical skills, even on a technical forum, are completely incidental.

It is a tough job, with precious little thanks, and one of the reasons for having a team is the burnout rate. Unless it is your own forum, no-body should moderate for too long --- for their own sake.

Anybody listening? This thread has been raised as a feedback/suggestion but nobody seems to care. Going by the low participation on this thread this time around, it seems members also have lost hope that we will have additional moderators.

Thanks Hemant for proposing my name. As much as I would like to help, I would not volunteer/wish to become a mod here....due to various reasons including conflict of interest:).

High participation will led to locking the thread as-usual :p. Members know what is going to happen atlast:lol: So why just wasting the time to write some valuable(crappy to somebody) things which nobody is going to hear.

It is not really clear why we need more mods.
Can we list a set of points which justifies the suggestion?
May be only then it will help to gain some momentum..

Hi all,

Why be so pessimistic??? Its so very simple, each 1 of you just have to nominate your choice for the post, so why no do so??? The supermod is reading the posts here with keen interest & am sure the outcome of us nominating our choice will get the desired results of a mod or better still couple of mods who will look after a particular section. Let us collectively fructify that goal.

Hence once again request all of you fellow members to nominate your choice. PLEASE :)

Reason for additional Mods:
We need additional mods as so far only 1 person is bearing the burden of the task actively, we all know who. The other mods are not at all active in their duties. So why not help ???

Santhosh, Hemant & myself have already nominated, suggest the others to join us :)
