Hello friends,
At present I am having YAMAHA HTR-3067 avr, POLK - tsx220b front speakers and POLK -tsx150c centre speaker.
Now I want to add sub woofer and surround speakers to my present set up. My budget is around 15k for subwoofer and 15k for surround speakers.
My need is 50% music and 50% movies. I Observed that my present system is giving good and crisp bass but not treble sounds.
I want to enhance the treble sounds with new addition of surround speakers.
Please guide me.

in my opinion, surrounds will not change the tonality of your speaker setup.
If you want more treble, You'll need to get brighter fronts, and shift the polks to the rear

Though honestly, if you find polks bright, i dont know what you can get brighter.
Have you tied toeing in your speakers or playing around with the EQ on the reciever?

Thank you, I positioned my fronts 60 degrees of listening position and I kept EQ in neutral position. I will change the position and get back to you.
Please suggest about Sub woofer and surrounds.

+1 to greenhorn
Polks are generally considered bright speakers. Reach for tone or EQ on AVR, if available.
Cheers,
Raghu

Yamaha has good music settings. Try those EQ settings first. Surround is only for adding the extra channel for Movie. For Music, it is always 2 channel Stereo that is classic :) For Subwoofer, you can check either Polk PSW110 or PSW125 but both are about 18K or 24K respectively. 15K I am not sure, you can check hifimart if there is any other brand.

Hi Ramana,

The main thing is what is the source you are playing? MP3s thru media player? Are the MP3 files of high quality? CDs? Is the DVD / MEdia player connected with a good HDMI cable or optical cable?

These are small things but they do matter when it comes to optimal precise performance....

Put these guys as fronts...

Pioneer SP-BS22

YAMAHA NS-333 Speaker

Shop for Yamaha NS 333 Home Theatre Component System Speaker at Reliance Digital

If you have place, some towers...

Shop for Yamaha NS-F160 2-Way Bass-Reflex Floorstanding Speaker at Reliance Digital

Shop for Polk TSx330T Floor Standing Speaker at Reliance Digital

If you want to add subwoofer

Shop for Yamaha YST-SW216 Subwoofer Speaker at Reliance Digital

Depending on your budget decide on the suggestions......if budget is a challenge and you are open to pre owned, look at the section For Sale by Owner or Hi Fi Ads...

All the best...

Hi,

I guess I know exactly what you are experiencing since I have an all Polk Setup too.

I use a Marantz receiver and when I use the Audyssey tune for music, it sounds very flat with a decent lower end. This is good for movies, but not for Music. For music I turn off Audyssey and use the built in Equalizer setting. That really brings out the best in the Polks. However, keep in mind, this setting would sound terrible when you switch to movies, where Audyssey does a better job.

So try experimenting with your built in EQ settings. You could take reference from Windows Media Player, iTunes, any other player's EQ settings or even google up images of EQ settings. Polks are one of the brightest speakers around and I cannot imagine how a speaker brighter than a Polk would sound.

Regarding Sub, you could go with a Polk sub or any sub suitable to your room size. I use a small 8" sub in a 12x16 room and find its performance satisfactory. Any larger and I am afraid the neighbors would start knocking my door. Placement of the Sub is the Key.

Pick any decent pair for the rear surrounds, preused could prove to be value for money in this case. These will not be used for Music and in movies too except for the occasional swooshes and tooshes these speakers would be on standby duty, hence spending too much on these is of less value. However, at the same time a good pair would only compliment the the overall system better while watching movies.

All the best.
MaSh

Thank you MaSh, your suggestion is really worked out. For music I turned off Audyssey and adjusted the EQ. Now I am getting the sweet part of the music to my ears.
Thank U all for your valuable suggestions, I learned new things from your postings.

Pls let me know what really is Audyssey?is it embedded in polk or yamaha?

Audyssey is room correction system. It is inbuilt in denon and marantz receivers. Yamaha uses its own room correction system called YPAO.

Every AVR has some room correction mechanism to adjust the settings/parameters accordingly in multi-channel audio setup (home theatre - multi-channel - 5.x, 7.x, etc.) to provide best listening experience.

Example:
Audyssey - Denon, Marantz
Pioneers exclusive Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration System (MCACC)

Your budget for sub seems to be very low. Should be around 30K.
Elac S10 was decent enough when I auditioned, but ultimately I had to choose different sub cause I preferred performance.
