I am planning to gather peerless raw speakers...for my DIY project.

All are peerless Speakers - India from Chowdhary Electronics Mumbai Lamington Road.

And the DIY project consists of Seven 3-way speakers and one 10" Sub-woofer.

All the 7 tower speakers will have 3 speakers :

1 - Midbass - 5"
1- Tweeter - Silk Dome
1 - Woofer - 4"
3 - Cross over for respective range of speakers.

So now i need you help regarding the

Question 1 - How to design the cross overs from scratch.
Question 2 - What is the RMS and Watt output needed to power them in simple what amplifier to use for this 7.1 Project.

Thanks,
Yashwanth

All this in 7 towers plus a sub woofer !! Thank god you are in Hyderabad, too far from my ears :yahoo:

whats the usage pattern, what amp.
room size. booshelves or florstanders.
why 7.1. there is hardly any content with 7.1.
do you have the room for it.
have u purchased the drivers. if not, wait and do your homework first before you go and sink your money in it.
what your skill/knowledge level. have u done any diy before this.
budget. existing setup.
why 3 way, why all of them 3 way? that too when u want a sub too.
its a large project, why not start with just 2 speakers and see if you have the stomach for it.

Hey Yashwant,

No offense to your project but i don't think your project will offer you any hi-fi quality sound. Just loud noise. Is that what you want? Check the forums here. Lot of decent stuff and decent budget.

Regards
Sid.

Thanks Guys...i have been watching various posts and browsed through various sites..finally i though that i will go for it with 7.1.

I am not looking for large sound i am looking for a sound that gives you feel in a theater.

Tight Bass - accurate division of sound according to the drivers.

Actually i am currently building a 17" DIY projector.

Just waiting for the Lenses(2 Fresnel Lens 480X640 mm + 74 mm Triplet Lens)
i already sent the DD to lensel just waiting for the lenses....today i called them..they said it will be shipped in two weeks...if you notice for a 17" monitor you need 100mm Triplet lens but you know the monitor which i have LG 17 " there is a option out of which you can make picture produced in around 14.5 to 15"....I guess this will definitely give gret picture. Anyways i will send you all the pictures once i am done.

Once i am done with it immediately start with DIY audio project.

Just give me what watt or RMS of output the Amplifier should be.

Thanks,
Yashwanth

Have you built any speakers?
Also why 7 towers .? In that I never saw Any centre speaker as tower ..I mean are you planning to place it behind the screen?
7 towers will be overkill and too much noice but no sound..
BTW why not Front towers Centre 3 way horizontal ( Or with 6 drivers --one member is already done with it) and 2 rear with drivers placed in 90 degrees? ( What is such rear called?) this type of rears give better surround effects.

BTW do you have speaker plans? Crossover plans?

The amp power would depend on your room size.

Firstly, to play 7.1 speakers you would need a very large room.

Secondly, the Centre speaker is required to produce human voice predominantly so a woofer is not necessary there.

Thirdly, the two effects channels also do not require full range tower speakers, only small bookshelves will do. If the room is small to medium, even these may not be necessary, you may go for dipoles as suggested by Hemant.

IMO, you can at the most go for towers for front and rear and a centre channel consisting of two Mids and tweeter. Full range towers at the rear provided you have a very large room greater than 300 sft.

2 rear with drivers placed in 90 degrees?

I was talking about dipolar and bipolar speakers..
Also I have yet to see HT package with 7 same towers.Yes there are same Satellites or same boohshlves.( anyone know such package with 7 towers please let me know.)Also now centre speaker is generally different and horizontal.Even bose is giving centre speaker horizontal now.
?
Also you have plans? and what about crossover

yking, why dont you build a set up with 3 way front towers and 4* 2way bookshelves as rears, and surrounds? Then, a centre channel with two mid/bass drivers and a tweeter which you can place horizontally beneath your screen and maybe a 12" subwoofer with a 200-500w plate amp to drive it.
7 towers for all the channels looks pointless.

iaudio - captrajesh - hemantwaghe - Really great..help from all of you...now yes i think i will go Rajesh suggestion. Once i start the project i will take your help. And once agian thanks so much. ....HIFIVISION IS BEST....:-)

it is obvious to me-

1. that you have crores of rupees to expend on this project.

2. that you have a listening room in your palace (like the nizams) which is 96 feet long, 42 feet wide, and 30 feet high

3. that, if you have three way surround - (all seven of them) - you will need a herculean sub-woofer to match (which will be too slow)

4. that, - your money is better spent if you gather all the foremost experts in the world today - and give them a $$$$$ CONTRACT!

best of luck!

Suri...great finally you replied as per my guess......:clapping:

Anyways i am going as per suggestion of Capt RAJESH.

And i need some help from you regarding the DIY amplifier....i want to build myself...any plans with you....!
