Hi Friends,
Since most of you own HT systems, i am sure Blueray player is one which all of you might have by default. I am in the final stage of my setup and require a 3d blueray player.

Requirement :
1) 3d
2) Must be able to play MAJORITY of video formats files from an Ext HDD - 1TB.
3) 1 or more HDMI Out and an Optical out.

I have evaluated :-
a) LG BP420 Blu Ray DVD Player @ 6K
b) Panasonic DMP-BDT230 Blue Ray Player @ 11K
c) plz suggest if any better VERSATILE player.

Thanks

i have Pioneer BDP450.
most versatile so far
has 2 HDMI out, ext HDD support, and damn georgeous.
check on net for details.
u might have to shell out some extra. i got @ 12k. from grey

but....
u can make it region free in future, its the most wanted feature till date , trust me,
all u can do is to intall custom firmware , that it,

im sure not all BD player has this option.

Need to clarify a technical doubt regarding audio output from a BR to AVR :-

My AVR (harman kardon avr3650) has capabiities to run DTS Master Audio.

The Blueray player which i plan to buy (LG BP420) will feed the AVR shows only Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital True HD, DTS, DTS HD...BUT NO DTS HD MASTER AUDIO.

Will there be a significant audio listening difference when i play a Blueray Disc with DTS HD Master audio features?

In my suggestion if it feels ok to u go for ps3 instead by adding 7k more coz it play bd too n has 3d compatibility i was in the same deli ma but my ps3 plays every thing n is attach to my sony AVR n iam happy n sure the games too lol

I had evaluated the PS3 option.
The only negative of PS3 is that it will not take my ext HDD (through USB)which is loaded with lots of movies......So the HDD goes unsed, as my PJ also (Acer H5370BD), does not have a USB port.

Hence i am back to a regualr BR Player....by the way.... LG BDP420 has 3D. So my question remains....repeating.....

In fact ps3 has two usb ports n internal 320 gb or 500gb hard disk so u have both option either u connect 1 tb of external hard drive or store ur movies internally i am aslo using same method

Thats a news to me!!! Thanks.....

I had checked at a Sony Showroom and the preson confirmed that it willl not take an ext HDD.

So are u confirming that it possible to access all movies/songs/pics stored on my existing 1 TB "WD Elements" HDD connected to the PS3 UBS port?.....If so i am going for it...

Will it access all types of media from the HDD?

yes man i am using it sony people will not confirm it coz of game piracy attach to it coz ps3 hack is available for all version but i prefer original coz of online features

Hi kurups

I am using the Pioneer BDP 150 and Pioneer BDP LX 55 Blu Ray players which are Region A. I upgraded the software recently via download from Pioneer website. Both players have 2 USB ports and read 1 TB easily and plays all formats.

The key is the movies you download have to be proper DD or DTS formats. The HDMI cables you use for these players need to be of higher transfer rate quality. I use the Monster HD700 HDMI cables which works like a breeze.

The LX 55 like the BDP 450 has 2 HDMIs..one for audio and one for video. It also has other connectivity options.

I am sure depending on the content being played, the DTS or Master Audio or DD will light up...provided the content is originally formatted.

Hope this helps.

Thanks @efernand1 for the reply.
From @vibhs, i got an info that a PS3 shall be a able to take external HDDs through its USB port and play most of the video files on the Ext HDD.

Since Sony does not say anthing about an ext HDD compatibility, i am a bit confused. I am just getting this tested once. And if it works, i might go for a PS3 only....

U have to first configure hard disk to connect to ps3 I mean in fat32 format then it will get connect but it will all play all movie formats I can only play yify movies which are mostly in mp4 format and not mkv. Rather than ps3 go for a dedicated blu ray player which can support all Video and audio format .instead go for a pioneer or sony

by default all pendrives n external hdd r fat32 or u can change the setting through properties wen connected to pc yes ps3 not support mkv but der r converters

FAT32 file format supports single file size not more than 4GB, hence you can rule out movie files larger than this size.

Why not a media player? I think you mostly would like to play it from the external Hard drive and most of the media players support all formats of audio and video now. Probably try KDlinks 720 HD 3D media player. This supports all video and audio formats and has excellent pic quality

LG BP420 video formats supported are - MPEG2, MPEG4 AVC (H.264), SMPTE VC1 (VC-9), DivX, DivX HD, MKV, AVC Rec, AVCHD, M4V, WMV, 3GP, FLV, VOB

I guess this almost covers everything......

And in bitstream mode it can output almost all audio till DTS HD Master Audio...@7k, .

Coupled with Harman AVR 3650, i feel this must give good HT experince.
