Hi Guys,

I need a lill help and suggestion for one of my friend who is planning to buy a AVR and 5.1 speaker package, sadly he is not a member of this forum so opening this thread to get you guys suggestions:

AVR requirement (a advance one):

1) it should be network enabled, dlna, airplay.
2) all latest HD audio format support
3) it should have Audyssey with MultiEq XT or higher support for room calibration (This is a must feature)
4) 7.1 with zone 2 capability (pre out)
5) good amount of hdmi and optical, coaxial inputs
6) programmable remote (not a must)

5.1 speaker requirement:

1) dont want big towers or bookshelves but good sounding satellite set with powerfull subwoofer
2) a full package or different set will do provided they are not as big as wharfedale 10.1 bookshelves or any towers

room size 12*15 (don't know exectly but close to 200 sqfeets not more than that)

budget 1.2L for these setup (given the prices have gone up these days, can be a lill flexible)

thanks in advance :)

thanks, wonder how much that will cost ? and 1912 doesn't have zone 2 I guess ? how better is the 2312 that 1912

Onkyo NR 809. Brilliant solid AVR. has everything you mentioned .
for Speakers, its an Ocean out there.
So for a 12x15 room Bookshelves with a decent sub.
Wharf, PSB, Tannoy etc

thanks, Onkyo systems have some nasty reviews on avsforums hence reluctant to suggest to a very new guy getting an AVR for the first time

I know its ocean of speakers hence need suggestion :)

What you all mentioned is right but, Onkyo is adapting the exact customer need nowadays like what you mentioned "all in one" so that's y they are making some slight Deviations in sound quality by only marginally Pls note marginally What to do buddy they also need to be in the market no

Onkyo has a bold Sound in which all HTIBians are expecting. Spirovirus had a good experience on this. Pls follow his reviews and views you will not fail.

Can we blame the company? or its all because of the latest technology? or its all about our needs?

Please correct me if I'm wrong

I have found no fault with the NR 809 ... Its a solid AVR with a plethora of features and huge power reserves for the HT user just perfect. In terms of SQ it is geared towards HT. Music reproduction is not that bad either. A tad on the bright side compared to a Denon, but it will not make you grit in pain or trun for cover. It needs to be paired with suitable ancillaries. I have spent over 25-30 hours with a FM's 809 watching movies on and off.
I head over to his place to watch a movie or two and he comes over to mine for Music. :ohyeah::ohyeah::ohyeah:

Infact it was present at the Pune Hifi meet as well, However it was not run through it paces because of lack of time .

The 809's I've had a chance to play around with were hooked to
JBL Studio 190 floostanders L+R MRP 35k
JBL Studio 120C Center MRP 12.5k
JBL Studio 130 Bookshelves rears 10k mrp
JBL ES250PW 12" wireless 400 watt RMS sub 35k mrp
(sub is presently in my house for a couple of days running through some tests.)

I can't fault with the entire system . It rocks .. yes its not spoken about much in this forum however the JBL studio series are I presume the only speakers which are cheaper in India than in US / UK. (take a look at JBl uk site and compare price difference
I find it strange that noone talks about the JBL's here. I guess because everyone here is more fascinated with British/American brands with exotic names.

So tremendous value for money considering the fact that we are paying a lot more than our British / American counterparts for brands like Wharf, Tannoy, Klipsch, Paradigm etc etc.

for Music again, The floorstanders are pretty solid. They are not in the league of the big boys at higher price brackets. but considering the price point of 35k, they stand apart for their huge soundstage. I would say though, they lack slight depth. But then most speakers in this price bracket and higher face similar constraints.

The only thing I have against this package is
1 Looks. JBL made them look too retro.
2. Size.. By no stretch if imagination are they small .. they are big . the fronts are over a meter tall, when compared to the Wharf 9.6 they are a tad taller.
The bookshelf rears are probably almost the same size as 10.1/10.2. for 10k the bookshelves are pretty decent and I would say they are definitely better than the budget Wharfedale 9.1 / 10.1 . However the 9.2/10.2 is better. But its a good 7-9k more expensive as well
Price to performance ratio I would give them a 10-10.
Try Getting a better center / rears at the price I mentioned above

Back to the 809,
If u look at the specs, it got possibly everything that you would need 7 channel preouts etc etc etc. Take a serious look at the 809 if possible, Its a beast
If I am not mistaken it is priced at around 70k...... + or - 5k not too sure

cheers

Thanks mate for ur detailed view

and when did the Pune hifi meet happened ? how can I miss that :(

is there any meet gonna happen again in pune ?

you are right, on paper the top line of denon cant beat the 809 its definitely in the list...

and where in pune its available ?

I once heard the onkyo 3300 ... it was a dissapointment ... the reciever was then most advanced in terms of features but the sound was just not upto it.. onkyo nr 609 or the denon 1912 .. it has zone 2 clearly labelled in the back.. but for movies nr 609 is product of the year

Dude the pune HFV meet was in November at Vicky's place in Wanowrie. I dont think any meet is on the cards atleast for the next couple of months.

809's are vailable at AVxellence DP road
as well as Sound factor on east street.
Not too sure if Behram from Aquarius stocks them. but its worth a try. Behram daruwala is a swell guy.
If you want to audition a live 809's with the JBL setup I can hook you up any time. The source the FM uses is samsung BR , WD Live, Samsung 55" series 8 led. (send me a PM if interested)

leaning towards denon 1912 as well as my frnd, wonder if denon 2312 will be a much better choice and will 2312 be a significant upgrade from 1912 ?

Network enabled AVR most are 7.1ch ,you can go for DENON 1912 / Yamaha VSX-671 / Pioneer 921
Speakers - Tannoy HTS101 / Polk Audio TL1600 Blackstone

Hi,

I think you can consider def tech pro cinema 600 / 800 system as well for speakers. Its a 5.1 system but an additional pair of satellites can be arranged by the dealer i guess. I think it will be suitable for any of the amps you are looking at (Denon 1912 / 2312)

Apart from other dealers mentioned above, Tulsi electronics have recently opened a store in Aundh, opposite to D-mart by name of The Soundscape (if that is convenient to you) and I think they stock def tech, though not sure about the audition.

Thanks & Regards,

Amit
