Great! I have, as you might have seen on another thread, been absolutely up to the ears in live carnatic music since the beginning of December. I even got to the point of feeling almost fed up with it, broke through, and found myslef listening in a new, more detailed way.
...

Yes, I did read all about it! :)

I've been lucky to find a venue that has regular recitals very close to where I live. They have all kinds of music (mostly Carnatic though) and dance forms playing on weekends (sometimes even weekdays). They even had a fiddle recital by a father-daughter duo of Irish descent last month, with a local gentleman playing carnatic violin with them!

I've also been lucky enough to have a very good friend who knows quite a bit about Carnatic music accompany me to the performances. Her father is on the organizing (cultural) committee of the venue, so I rarely miss a performance.

Compliments of the Season to one and all...

Blasto is this a resolution for the new year :-)

2013 - My first step in hifi...mid July started building the system with avr + fronts + bdp + centre + surrounds. Also added an old dvd player primarily for playing audio cd. Then also bought a TT.

2014 - Planning to get a SW. Then will try to stop for sometime. (However, I am also thinking of buying a stereo amp, even Indian brands if required for music listening)

Denom bhai, it is better we leave things to the experts. Let me know when you come to Delhi. ;)

 Another place to visit when I finally do make it over to Delhi & NCR :p
Hopely the maggies would be 'broken-in' by then :D

Plan for 2014:

Spend Rs 0/-

Good luck Blasto:lol:. Seriously though, that is a plan of action I want to emulate as well, I have stopped all Amp, Preamp and Dac related activities - at-least for next 2-3 years (for my main system). Only thing left is a big speaker upgrade and thats it till 2017 or 18 and perhaps some tweaks to my comp. audio.
Cheers,
Sid

Year2013:

Musical fidelity M6i Amp + M1 Dac + Monitor audio GS20 speaker
Laptop + Foobar+ ipad as Remote control.

Year 2014:

Just enjoy & Exploit the above system.

Happy New Year Guys.:)

Indialoge:

Yamazaki is available but very highly priced here(duty paid). I haven't seen it at Bangalore duty free as yet. I want to look at sampling it and then if I like it, getting a bottle of it on my next trip overseas, this summer. Let's see.

Spending on audio and hifi this year is not going to be much, hopefully, since most toys are already in the playroom! The Synology is coming in tomorrow morning, the 4Bay NAS is to be commissioned next week if all goes well, using FreeNAS.

still trying to figure out the digital music management bit. Hope file formats/ organisation/ NAS pieces of the puzzle will get sorted out this year. Got a WD live, but seems it can not share AIFF files as part of iTunes library - it is sharing WAV only. My oppo 95 also can not play AIFF file.

I blew my wad early for 2014. A small new edition in my ever ending quest to downgrade to a good music system on which I can enjoy my music, instead of pursuing some unattainable audiophile holy grail. So my Harbeth SHL5s are now ensconced and welcomed in my system. Not the last word in definition, airiness and audiophile magic as the Martens, but suddenly I am listening to a lot more of my older recordings and accepting the compromises of the speaker in favor of the music.
I would like to get a good room correction system at some point but that is the end, I hope, of spending money on my audio system for many years.
My 2014 resolution is to finally get through listening to more of the music I had collected but set aside....

Wish you all a ROCKing 2014. :)

I'd be shifting out of Chennai, most likely to be Trivandrum.

I've planned to build the GR Research 5.1 kit within this year and may be the F5 or F6 too.

Wish me good luck guys.

captrajesh, I hope my new year includes meeting up with you several times before you leave Chennai, which I will be sorry to see happen.

Just install a dbpoweramp crack, and use it to convert. You can also use XLD. Convert from AIFF to wav. They are both uncompressed storage, convertible from one to the other. Then you are free.
