The PSU noise is noticable or should i say quite audible in my htpc. Please let me know if you have any recommendation for a 'silent' psu, I have the iball baby case.

one more thing , i think the noise increased when i replaced my old dvd drive with a blue ray drive. But i cant be sure as it is persistent even if i disconnect the drive.

thanks
Sachin

spirovious, are you using the iball baby case, will this psu support micro atx where space is a premium :(

thanks
Sachin

thanks guys.

@theironhorse - do you remember the model number ? I serched the cooler master site and I could not find any tagged as micro atx :(

An easy solution than changing the psu is to find out the cfm of the fan used in the psu and replace the fan with the low rpm / silent fans or try low rpm 120mm fan (some DIY effort may be required for this)

I forgot to tell that my VIP has a small controler switch(like vol control)which is said to control fan speed of PSU.

Thanks guys .. i am going to try some of these options before going for a replacement.

I googled and found a solution of applying sewing machine oil to the fan joints. Have tried , cannot say it has solved the problem.

I think the next option is replacing the fan. One question i had was , the fan is in an external attachment to the psu and can be easily replaced, but the wire is soldered to the circuit board of the psu.

I was thinking to just cut this off , replace with a new fan and just attach to the power pin that the psu supplies (which also powers the cabinet fan). But my worry is , will it still get the information from the psu to regulate the speed etc.
Any advise on this ?

thanks
Sachin

Just to close on this , I finally ended up byuing a new cabinet (CM elite 310) and new powersupply (FSP Saga 500W). And its silent now :)

I tried with some other powersupplies like techcom etc. But got same noisy results with the iball baby. So just a note to all planning to use this cabinet in future, although the cabinet is great with its form factor, it is very difficult to get a good quality mirco atx power supply. so please think before you buy this.

The CM elite 360 is another option which can be placed horizontaly.but was not avialable when i went to buy.

thanks
Sachin

tried everything (cleaning , applying machine oil to fan contacts etc) except replacing the fan. A standard PSU does not fit in this case, its a small form factor case.
