Hi All,

I have an very very old speakers that I used during my teens. Now it is there in the corner of the room silently sleeping since my New Onkyo 3500 occupied its place.

I was using these speakers with my Solidaire amplifier which sounds good even now.

A new idea struck my mind,"Why dont we use these speakers for Onkyo which has separate port for Stereo as "B" speaker?

That's what my question on this forum. Can I use those speakers with my onkyo? Will it damage my receiver.

Here are the speaker specs Maximum that I got,

Power : 50 Watts
Impedance : 8ohms

I am highly worried because my receiver power output is 85W for 8ohms speakers but this has got little low power.

I am sure that many of us will thing this as a stupid question but I just wanted an guidance from a stuffed person.

Thanks

Asaldharan,

Before you connect them to AVR,Be sure to check whether the Woofers Coils are stuck \The tweeters performance.

To be short, just Run them for time with her Old pair ,Later to that connect to Amplifier.

Once i have see a Speaker (Voice Coil got struck) damaging the Amp.

Will the difference in the impedance of the speaker affect the Receiver?

Currently I have 6ohms speakers that came along with the package.

The specs of the AVR tells the follows,

##Power Output: 120 W/Ch (6 Ohms, 1 kHz, 1 Channel Driven, JEITA)
100 W/Ch (6 Ohms, 1 kHz, 1% THD, 1 Channel Driven, IEC)
##Frequency Response: 5 Hz100 kHz/+1 dB, -3 dB (DSP Bypass)

Asalsharan,

When the Ohms Load goes down then it would trouble the Amp to suck More Watts Ex. 4 or 2 Ohm Load speakers are not safe to driven on Entry Level Amps.

In your case the Speakers are 6 Ohms so nothing to worry About it.Just Play them. Vintage once should be good For Midrange freq.

Out of this post but related topic

There is still debate going on "A speaker would and should work for Any OHMS load as it completely rely on the Music\track which they Play.

IMHO- a 12 inch Subwoofer with 2 Ohms\4 Ohms, say 50 W cannot be driven soft and cool by 100W Amp too compared to a 8\6 Ohms Speaker.

Some time Science would hidden in curtains when Sentiments playing.
