Please advise on Onkyo TX-NR616 7.2 AVR with POLK Audio Blackstone TL 1600 5.1 speaker package.

I had been nearby PRO FX store and they said the Blackstone TL 1600 speaker may blow off if u use it with Onkyo TX-NR616 AVR !! it cant withstand the power etc. They instead proposed the following Polk Speaker Package:

RTI-A7 Front Speakers 2 nos .
FXI-A6 Surround Speakers 2 nos.
CSI-A6 Centre Speaker 1 no.
DSW-PRO550Sub-Woofer 1 no

There is hell of difference in price , Blackstone TL 1600 5.1 package is costing around Rs 34000 where as above package is over 1.2 Lacks. !! Please advise

Hi Manu,

the only problem would be to drive the speakers ar high volumes. You can run the audessey and the speaker output will be set on db. What is ur room size? that will drive if you need to pump up the volume or not. Else spend a little more and go for energy RC micro series. they are compatible for Onkyo and are been sold in chennai through Okyo partners.

hi sribuddy, my living room size is approx 365 sq. feet.

Manu, thanks. But where do you sit from the source. that is more important. If you are going to sit occuping such a big hall, you need to go for FS or large BS. Klipsch is good because of high sensitivity. Any Amp will be able to drive them.

You can go for Energy CF series. I heard them in Onkyo store, they sound really good.

The blowing bit apart, listening to 616 on those speakers is like trying to empty a water tanker using a small tap!

You wont get joy man!

616 is a powerful receiver, and you need better speakers to unleash it.

I'll give you an option between 1.2L and 35000:

Polk Audio TSi 400 Floorstanders - 26K (if constrained for budget, you can use TSi 300 also)
Polk Audio CS 10 Center - 9K
Polk Audio TSi 100 surrounds - 10.8K
Subwoofer can be Polk PSW 110, 125 or 550 depending upon your budget.

I'm using this exact same setup (with the TSi 400s) (except the sub, which I havent bought yet) with the Onkyo 616 - and they go beautifully together!

I bought the Onkyo 616 last week and looking for speakers. below are the speakers which i am planning to buy.

Sonodyne Sonus 2605 V3 Floorstanding Loudspeaker (2nos) 29,000
Sonodyne Sonus 1501 V3 Bookshelf Loudspeaker (2nos) 11,900
Sonodyne Sonus C2401 V3 Centre Channel Loudspeaker(1no) 6,450
Sonodyne Roarr 108 Subwoofer (1no) 15,800

total cost 63,150 and i am getting additional 10% discount.

Please suggest me if they are good.

What was the price that you paid for 616 ?

I think for surround speakers you have chosen Sonus 1501 v3..You can choose Sonodyne Sonus Dipole surround speakers approx @ the same price....

Onkyo + Sonodyne Sonus speakers are excellent combo for movies/music.... I have been using the same combo (Onkyo HTR-540) extensively for more than a month and i am impressed with Onkyo's ability...

Thanks for advice. I bought it for some thing around 350$.
Sonus R-ears V3 (Sonus Dipole) - That speakers looks something different for me. There are 2 speaker in a box and both of them face different angle like V shape. are they good?

Great price for 616 - 20K...Few days back an other forum member had got the same receiver from Dubai for 26K.. Your buy iz a steal :clapping:

Dipoles are advanced surround speakers...They are better in creating surround effects in comparison to the normal speaker....

Thanks for the update.

Now i am worried about the power supply. The one which i have will support US power. i dont know which one to buy for power conversion

No need to worry... You need to buy a step down transformer.....There are some threads for using step down converter.. Check them you will get an idea...

I purchased the below Wharfedale 5.1 speaker system including full set of cables in excellent condition from a Dubai seller who was leaving country urgently.

1- Wharfedale Crystal 2-40 Tower speakers 150 Watts RMS - 1 pair
2- Wharfedale powecube 10+ Active subwoofer 150 watts RMS - 1 NO
3- wharfedale wh-1-1 Surround speakers 120 Watts RMS -1 pair
4- Wharfedale WH-1.1 Center speaker 150 Watts RMS - 1 No

The ASKING price was US$ 400 and i managed to negotiate it to $200 for the whole package !! Attached find few photos. Please leave your suggestions .

I bought an NR 616 and now I am looking for a 5.1 speaker system. Unfortunately I am not looking to splurge - my initial plan was to buy NR 414; but I got great deal on 616.

I initially had a budget of 20K for speakers, but I figure I might have to stretch it a little. What speaker set would you recommend for under 40K. I am mostly interested in watching movies and TV - and the living room size is around 330 sq ft.

How would you guys judge Boston XS 5.1 or Boston S 5.1?
