Aditya I just went through the thread of your HT system. Wow! Nothing else to say to say, it is amazing. And when you get your Marantz AV with Klipschs speakers, the movie experience will be out of this world. Just a query about your computer, where exactly is it and does it make a noise?

I feel almost ashamed to compare my setup with yours. My setup is in the bedroom, I have tried to set it up as unobtrusively as possible, but I have had to make big compromises, like no screen, instead a newly whitewashed wall.

But the benefits of just reclining on your bed and enjoying a theater like experience is a big benefit.

You know Aditya, there are things in life that you buy and then fell bad about it. The Optoma projector is not one of them, I have enjoyed every moment with it.

You can see PC in the pics I posted .... its behind the table on which projector is placed. The black square box it is PC ..... the fan for Projector is on right side ...so i thought it will be best if I place the PC behind and towards left side of Projector table, in the photo it will be right side of the projector It does make some noise, but not too much that it disturbs my gaming experience I play with volume very high so nothing disturbs me

3. i might defer buying a screen for few more weeks. In meantime i planning to project it on to my wall. would the picture quality still be good when viewed in dark?

There is a dealer available in Hyd.
Would give you the same effect of a projector screen if not better.
Better meaning , there would be no worry of folds etc..

I received my optoma Hd141x package yesterday. The packaging was very good and there was no signs of damage. The Pj was protected with bubble wrap placed in the outer and the inner box. The outer box was slightly open, guess by the customs team.

The package arrived before its scheduled date of 24th April. Had placed order on 12th April and received it on 21st. Surprisingly it dint stay for long at the customs. The package arrived in india(gurgoan) on 20th and was there at my home in Bangalore on 21st evening. The courier guy needed a photocopy of ID proof, due to custom requirement

Opened the box and found the PJ along with power cable, remote(with batteries), CD rom manual and Quick setup guide. Since the power plug did not fit into my socket, had to use an adapter (GM 3 pin adapter with surge protector). Connected the power cord to adapter, took a deep breath turned the switch on. Saw a red light on projector, which was indication that device was functional. Turned the On button on the projector. Nothing happened for 3-4 seconds. Then all of sudden saw optoma logo on the wall. Connected HDMI cable from my laptop to the projector and voila, had the laptop screen on the wall. The screen was slightly blurred and had to adjust focus knob on the PJ to get clear image.

Played a few videos and the experience was mind blowing. I had not seen a HD projector before and having seen the quality on my wall, it was unbelievable. The colors are amazing. The video quality is as good as you see on a multiplex screen. The Pj also has inbuilt audio, the sound quality is OK. But to have a cinematic experience, a home theatre system is must which I donot have at present and would welcome some recommendations(preferably latest model which I can import from amazon.com). Though I have a Ps3, the videos I played are mostly 1080p rips from torrent sites and are not full HD in terms of resolution. Hence some of videos looked slightly pixelated, but I would attribute it to video file used and iam sure that video would be at its best if feed it from Bluray from my Ps3. The projector was placed at distance of about 13 ft i was able to get 9ft X5ft display on my wall(light cream colored). iam very happy with my wall as screen donot intend to purchase screen separately

Now after having played for about an hour, I lost the sound from inbuilt speaker. Touched the projector and it was very hot. Had to shutdown the projector and allow it to cool for sometime. Went through the manual in meantime and turned it on again after some time providing additional ventilation by placing fan next to projector. The sound was back and the projector ran for about half an hour and was less heated than before. I had mounted the Pj on table, which might have affected the ventilation and am hoping that once I mount it on ceiling, it might reduce the heat. Would like to know if anybody else in the forum has faced this issue before?

And finally to the best part, the pricing. When I ordered from amazon, they had charged 53K(38 for projector, 2k for shipping and 13k for import duties). Just got mail from amazon that they would refund the entire 13k as some of custom duties have been waived off. So I basically got the PJ at same price as is available on amazon.com + 2k INR extra

congrats kiran. Yes there has been refunds for recent US orders. I guess everybody who have got it from amazon in over last one month should be getting the refunds. It's a good news for all and we should appreciate amazon for their service.

Do anyone know the reason for the custom duty waived off and the dates when it was applicable?
may be I am also a potential candidate for some refund from them (I did not receive any email from amazon regarding it, but if I know the reason I will definitely chase them)

BTW, i am still looking for some solutions to the projector heating problem. Do offer me any inputs that would help reduce the heating

I shall write to them now, but wondering if I could know the reason/background on which it was waived off, that would have helped.

Another note, I called the carrier, and their customer care confirmed that import duty was paid to customs. So seems no freebies for me:sad: I have asked them to send me a copy of invoice though.

Guys please check whether your orders were delivered before 31st March as I think the duties were reduced in the budget and applicable from April 1st onwards.

I think kiran got full refund and not the partial refund. Govt is not kind enough to A/V lovers to eradicate import duty. This must be a case of some amazon policy, not GoI

I got following reply from Amazon while asking refund for my purchase-
"Whenever the actual import fee deposit collected are less than we estimated, we'll issue a refund for the difference. We'll send you an e-mail once the refund goes through. Keep in mind that the process takes 60 days from the shipment date."

Inquired with the Carrier and they confirmed the payment of duty to customs and sent me the invoice too.

Seems I am not that 'Lucky by chance'

I think, most of them would have done the settings based on their preference. i am not sure if there is any professional hidden among us in this optoma users to give us THAT perfect setting.

having said this, i got few calibrated settings when i googled for 'optoma calibrated settings'. Please try that and see if it matches your preference.

I have curv wall dedicated to projector I am just confused for the paint on it,it's silver grey do u guys think it's good enough or should paint it white,the picture is taken today morning and it's much better in night too
