One of my friends introduced me to Coke Studio from Pakistan some couple of months ago. For those who are thinking what its all about, here is something from their website:

"Coke Studio embodies a musical fusion of exciting elements and diverse influences, ranging from traditional eastern, modern western and regionally inspired music. Bringing alive the magic of live recordings and performances, Coke Studio prides itself on providing a musical platform, which bridges barriers, celebrates diversity, encourages unity and instills a sense of Pakistani pride. Coke Studio is an inspired step by Coca-Cola for having created a platform where renowned as well as upcoming and less mainstream musicians from various genres can collaborate musically."

I have been smitten by the result of such experimentation. Unfortunately, the recordings are not available on CDs :( The MP3 can be bought on Amazon (US&UK) and on iTunes

To see all their videos, please visit Coke Studio channel on Youtube

My personal favourite amongs all their songs is Aik Alif. The vocalists are beyond compare:

YouTube - Aik Alif

Lyrics of this song are (with english translation):

Pur pur ilm te fazal hoyo (You read to become all knowledgable)
Ve kadi apne aap nu parya nai (But you never read yourself)
bajh bajh varnaye mandar-e-maseeti (You run to enter your mosques and temples)
Va kadi mann apne vich varya nai (But you never entered your own heart)
Larna Roooz (Everyday..)
Shaitaan de naal (You fight satan)
De kaday sapnay naal larya naai (But you never fight yourself)
Bulleh Shah asmaani udhiyaan phiro naai (Bulleh Shah, you try grabbing that which is in the sky)
Ve jera ghar betha unhoun phariya naai (But you never get hold of what's inside your own house)
Bas ik karee oh yaar ilumu (Stop seeking this knowledge (of the world) my friend)
Bas ik karee oh yaar ilumu (Stop this seeking my friend)
Aik alif tere darkaar (Only an alif (beginning or oneness) is what you need)
Aik alif tere darkaar; haq (Only an alif (beginning or oneness) is what you need; truth)
Allah saieenya (God beloved)

Nii mein jaana (I'm going along)
Jogi de naal (With the devotional one)

Jo na janay (One who doesn't know...)
Haq ki taqat (The strength of truth)
Raba na deway us ko hemat (God won't give them the strength)
Hum mann ke dariya mein doobay (We are drowning in our own selves)
Kaisi nayya, kya manjhdhaar; haq (There are no boats, nor storms; only truth)

Thank you Coke Studio.. Keep them coming!

Energetic voice...

It is quite interesting to know that music is still alive in Pakistan. Where I can download this songs? Do not want to pay and contribute to their economy.

You can also get the mp3s thru torrent.

Also try Chambe di booty.. nice song.. I like their session artists, specially the Drummer.. :)

Cheers..!!

Saari Raat and Jo Meray the by Noorie are also good songs.. I like that singer with beard.. he's just rockin.. nice range... clear voice.. :)

Overall i liked their attempt to get artist from all over and get them at one place.. n frankly speakin i just cant understand that being 2nd most populated country in the world, India do not have so much talented artists which Pakistan have.. a bit strange..

I agree, Pakistani music scene is much better than what we have in India. Its not that commercialised over there and the musicians want to create music for the love of it, may be thats why.
Something like this is absolute brilliance.

To get a sufi singer who has sung at dargahs for most his life, a bass guitarist, a drummer together to create a song has to be genius.

One of the reasons why I never moved from the 60s and 70s rock was because I couldnt identify the music which is churned out today, but this fusion is super! I love it!

M loving it too.. :licklips:

Hope we keep getting this kind of Muzikk.... :) and would love to see more sensible music from Indian Artists..

Cheers..!!!

Great search jitubisth :)

This is a rare kind of sufi music having unclouded lyrics by Baba Bullay shah. This lyrics is sung by number of indian and paki singers but its the first time i am listening to it with such electronic instruments and different notes.

Thanks for sharing :)

I am trying since months to get the CDs but i dont know for what reason they are not releasing the CDs. MP3 quality sucks. Its not even 320kbps. I sent a mail to coke studio but they said they will release the CDs soon. Went to Music land and requested there also for CDs. I have a friend in Pakistan who was working with me when I was in IBM. I contacted him but he said CDs are not yet released.

Its so frustrating that we dont have CDs of such good music. Chambe di booti is my fav song too. Its like an addiction but i am waiting for the CDs eagerly to listen the high quality version. All songs are my Fav except Rahat Fateh ali khan's cuz he copied Nusrat's Night Song album and no one can copy Nusrat. He should have sung his own songs. Obviously if someone has listened to Night Song album he wont like the same songs being sung by someone else.
