Playing Speaker Poker with mpws NAD356

Congrats mpw.. the M12i is a very capable speaker. Last time I was quoted too high a price of 50k for it, which is a reason I had hesitated and ultimately did not go for it.

Part of the reason it sounds good is that it has got a pretty thick front baffle which adds to the rigidity of the driver mount and reduces coloration. It should be an interesting pairing with NAD.

Congrats mpw! Denom, fingers still crossed after so much effort?

In india.. home demos are not possible and there is no return policy either. Even after auditioning.. one cannot be sure how the combo will play out in your room.. wrt.. room interaction, reflections etc..

fingers crossed.. yes.. the hard work was put in.. lessons drawn and trigger pulled..

hope it works out..

yes tirthankar - interesting it will be. I dont know if anyone else on HFV atleast has this combo. Lets see how it pans out.

Yesterday i heard a tube based DAC and am planning to so something on these lines maybe after a few months.

Important thing is that i will give this combo a full chance before coming to any conclusion. I have requested Magma to make me the Nemesis stands with 3 spikes.

Put in 4K now and get a T amp for the Epos.
It would beat the 356 hollow!

With all due respect to all the T-amp aficionados, why this contempt for bigger (probably better amps)? I have a T-amp and have tried them with multiple speakers. It works, sounds decent enough for the price and is good fun to surprise visitors in office. But that's about it. It does not beat any amps I own "hollow" for sure. The lows are muddy even missing from some demanding speakers. The Titan even at 92db struggles to be driven by the T. Whereas the 356 doesn't even break a sweat and puts the unruly tweeter into perspective at the same time has oodles of low-end energy to satisfy most listeners.

I don't have anything against T amps, its just that blanket statements like these are bit immature coming from someone as experienced as avidyarthy or other senior members.

Finesse, clarity, separation is what is being looked at ..leaving aside loudness. Or is it that the TP 20 combination with JBL is so pristine that I have literally started looking down on bigger powerful combis, including my own Krell-Krypton too .... :p

I dont think the t amp will be a good match for the epos since as I mentioned earlier, it requires a high current drive which has the capability of supplying into lower impedance. That is not exactly the t-amp's forte.

Best match imo will be a good quality class a. A tube amp may also work out well.

As long as you understand the epos sound signature and can anticipate what kind of improvements or changes will be there compared to the ones you've heard as a point of reference, It should be ok.

That is basically what I did with my Jamo's and it's worked out quite well.

I knew it would be a bright speaker, from my experience with other jamo speakers leading up to it where low end ones were wooly and as one went higher it got more bright and more sensitive to the equipment it was connected to. My amp and rca connectors were purchased accordingly to tame brightness without sacrificing sound quality and maintain synergy to an acceptable degree without breaking my wallet.

So as long as you had an idea of the degree of synergy that will exist between your components, it will work out accordingly.

BTW which veneer did you opt for and when do they get delivered?

No offense, none taken. :p

In queue for the Krell ;)

Who is the dealer you are referring to in bangalore? I thought FXEntertainment and Profx priced products quite reasonably.

Very Bad!!!. I had a chance to listen to them at one of my Friends place in France.

Its sounded too good to me and got excited when I saw FX started dealing with Triangle and T+ A brands.

Guys it looks like Profx lost Focal speaker dealership!!!!.

Audio planet.

It is the same color I had auditioned and it does look good.
Do work on your placement once you get them. These speakers are rear ported and may need to be a little closer to the walls for a robust bass response. However whatever low end is there is pretty fast and precise.. good enough for a bookshelf of its size. I feel its major strength is the midrange and an articulate if a little bright top end.

I had even made the person work on placement during my demo at the shop.. :)

Please ensure you separate them at-least 8 feet. I had good results with Speaker placement on a small Square room using Cardas guide.

You wont be surprised and it will even put many floor standers to shame in terms of it bass

Cheers

I had my speakers wide apart for a really long time while I sat there salivating, gazing at whats in between. :licklips: The amp and cd source you pervert! :ohyeah:

Then one day I brought them closer together and I found that all this while the left speaker was not really supplementing the right speaker and vice versa. Now there is a better sense of cohesion and the sound is "enhanced" so to speak.

Speaking of which, did you know that the missionary position can actually be enjoyed better with both the feet together (Your partners i.e)? :licklips::ohyeah:

So feel free to experiment with different positions and start with the speakers 5 ft apart. :) I hope your speakers are bass-reflex? Front or rear ported? ;)
