Hey folks,
Has anyone got a chance to compare Precision dimming pro vs Local dimming? I am planning to buy LG 65qned92ala which comes with Precision dimming pro, where as other QNEDs in LG (per customer care) are Local dimming. 65qned92ala is an online model only available in LG.com. The price difference between 65qned92ala and 65qned8ga6a is about 40K. Since its an online model i cannot compare the PQ and wondering if its worth to spend additional 40K on this.

That sounds like marketing speak for dimming zones. If you can, find out how many dimming zones the two models actually have and compare based on that.

The 40k difference seems substantial and would likely bring you closer to OLED price territory

I didn't ask LG but got this last week from AI response. Not sure how accurate is this. I wasn't quite impressed with their response. The person tool more than 15 mins just to identify the difference. I can ask them once again
Local dimming:
  • Moderate Zone Density: Approximately 180 controllable zones arranged in a grid pattern
  • Standard LED Size: Larger individual LEDs creating distinct illumination areas
  • Basic Grid Layout: Regular rectangular arrangement with manageable spacing between zones
  • Zone-Based Control: Each section operates independently but with limited granularity for contrast control
Precision Dimming:
  • Ultra-Dense Micro-Zones: Thousands of individually controllable LED zones
  • Mini LED Technology: Extremely small LEDs (under 0.2mm) enabling precise light control
  • High-Density Grid: Dramatically increased LED count allowing near pixel-level dimming precision
  • Advanced Control System: Each micro-zone can be independently adjusted by AI algorithms for optimal contrast

Key Technical Differences
The visual comparison clearly illustrates why Precision Dimming Pro delivers superior performance:
Zone Count Comparison:
  • Advanced Local Dimming: ~180 zones (65-inch display)
  • Precision Dimming Pro: Thousands of micro-zones
Control Precision:
  • Advanced Local Dimming: Basic spatial analysis with standard response times
  • Precision Dimming Pro: AI-driven real-time analysis with predictive motion processing
Blooming Control:
  • Advanced Local Dimming: Standard mitigation with occasional visible halos
  • Precision Dimming Pro: Advanced halo minimization algorithms for virtually bloom-free performance
The Precision Dimming Pro array's dramatically increased LED density enables the sophisticated AI algorithms to deliver precise brightness control, resulting in superior HDR performance, enhanced gaming visuals, and significantly reduced blooming artifacts compared to Advanced Local Dimming systems.

I could go for OLED as well but just because I see many are complaining about burn-ins im avoiding it. I just don't want to run around after 3 years with new issues after spending 2.5 or 3 L.

This one comes to 2L including 3 years warranty

There are zero issues of burn in on modern OLEDs. One TV of mine is running great from 2021, other one from 2022 and my MIL's TV is running fine since 2019.

You have 5 years of warranty these days. There are more chances of a non OLED dying than an OLED dying.

Thats convincing for me, how does OLED perform in bright room? 2 windows and no building next to my windows.

For dimming zones, please check if LG has detailed specs in the manual or an overseas site.

I'd suggest considering OLED instead. Burn in is a non issue. Usual failure happens due to power fluctuations (similar to other OLEDs) so use a transformer. During Diwali, LG usually bundles along 3 year warranty and pricing is attractive. You should be able to get a G5 at 2l for a 65 inch. It has great reflection handling and brightness

As per LG customer support, MiniLed with local dimming is Edge lit but the precision dimming is full array. Interesting part of he is refused to send confirm over email. I alway thought miniLed is full array backlit one.

I started comparing S95F and G5. I see price is also less for Samsung that too with QD OLED. How good Samsung TVs are?
S95f is matte. See it in a store and decide

Samsung is new to Oleds. Their first gen was very bad, has gotten better since. Panel quality now seems equivalent to LG but problems with power section. The power issue not there in 95 series as they handle heat better. If getting one, make sure you get extended warranty

The s90f in 65 inch is not qd oled in India so avoid

Thank you Jai. Dropped Samsung
