You want the short answer? No... Even at the budget of 5-6 times of ur 50k u wont be able to meet all of ur criteria... BTW I am curious as to how u came up with these requirements... Unless u have someone picking up a projector for u in the US & bringing it back to India with them, u wont even find a entry level 1080p projector let alone a high end specs one like u mentioned...

Why would you require 3500 lumens unless you are watching it in broad daylight!

I guess you have just read the specifications somewhere and not researched about them. Even Full hd i.e. 1920 X 1080 resolution can be avoided if there are money issues. 720p is also very good.

PLS SUGGEST WHETHER ..THE BELOW SPECS ARE FINE

2500 LUMENS

3000:1

HD

1024*768 RESO

...PLS advice about the contrast ..i heard for a video projector/ home projector

the more the contrast the more clarity it will be ..like 65000:1
300000:1

also .
is 1024*768 hd is ok.. for a 100" screen...

for screen how much should i invest ...will the screen make real diffrence in HD..

PLS SHED MORE LIGHT...THANKS

Please first let us know the brand on paper many projectors look attractive but when you see it you feel cheated. Let us know which brand and in my view in your budget you have choice Epson TW 480 OR EB X 12 OR Viewsonic PJD 6553W. As far as clarity and other thingsare concerned brand is important. Chinese brands are cheats trust me. They look attractive on paper but are worst projectors you can see. I have experienced 4 such brands be very careful china based companies most are thugs

I just got my Optoma GT750 today - and hooked up my PS3 with it - and also my BDT-220 blu ray player.........One word:

WOW

hands down the best investment i've ever made; from just 2 feet away, the projector outputs an stunningly wide image.

The colors are crisp (and even on a painted wall!); No gaming lag.

It took me about 10 secs to realise how awesomely cool this truly is. I've had basic projectors all along (for our hotel) - and nothing comes close to this. 720p and ABOVE is the only way to watch movies - the difference is very very real.

Ps.....I did extensive research for weeks before selecting this one (ended up going for the european one VS. the American one - because of the 2-yr Optoma warranty given by the Spanish Amazon.

Congratulations. Indeed projector, ass kicking ht system in a dedicated room if possible, is the true way of enjoying movies.

Most foreign warranties won't work in India; If you want an Indian warranty - you gotta pay Indian prices for these projectors i.e. INR 17-20k or so more. I went with the Spanish Amazon because the two year warranty is a nice cushion, even if I have to send it to Europe to repair because its usually around the 13-15 month mark that projectors often show signs of problems/issues - so you're not covered by the Indian warranty anyway

The GT750 - the grand total with import duties, Amazon shipping (came in 3 days!!!!!) etc etc cost me just a little over INR 50,000 - I started with a budget of INR 30,000 - but decided to go ONCE, but go BIG - you should do the same.....

and yes.........if you're buying European, and the product you want doesn't ship to india (by Amazon) - ALWAYS see the 'see other sellers' option - a lot of the other sellers do

What is the procedure for import of a projector? how much duty gets charged? where do you pay the duty ?
can you suggest how this is done? I will surely like to get one from outside.
many thanks in advance.

Buying online from abroad is pretty straightforward provided you have a Creditcard. Like in anything else, there are always some bad experiences but generally the transaction is smooth. Personally the only drawback I see is the loooong wait for upto a month, to get the goodies, if one dosent choose express shipping at additional cost.

Almost all major online sellers provide options to calculate shipping and customs charges for each of the purchases. One has to pay the full amount including shipping and customs during the purchase.

Sites like Amazon give you the full total cost payable including customs while making the purchase. If you are lucky, sometimes customs is NOT charged on delivery to India on lower value items, but even though you pay the customs upfront to Amazon, they refund in a months time after delivery if no duty was charged.

Well - here's what i did on Monday (Oct. 22 - YES - THIS monday) - and the projector came in yesterday morning!! Didn't pay extra for fast shipping or anything.

Use 'Chrome' as a browser as it translates automatically.

I found that Amazon.es: libros, cine, electrnica, videojuegos y ms. has some excellent deals + you get a 2-yr Optoma warranty (dont know about other brands) - i dont know why is it two yr with Optoma - maybe some law in Spain or something
But also research on Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, etc

My Duties deposit was 130 Euros - deposit meaning, if it doesn't get utilised you get it refunded back.

Find the projector you like - and if you get a 'doesn't ship to your location' error - go back and and check out the 'See other sellers' - and look for the world 'international' - so you know they'll ship to you.

Once you do that - go through the whole checkout process - in the end, you'll find that if the price was say Euros 500 for the projector - a good chunk be taken off - around 15% i think - but dont quote me on that - because the VAT gets deducted as its being sent to India

If its being sold through Amazon itself - you'll get an all inclusive price including - import duties and courier fees etc

THIS was another factor I went with Amazon Spain and not Amazon Germany or UK because for the same product, at the same price - Spain was giving me a faster delivery time - small factor - but good to have nevertheless.

Now something funny happened - and I am not sure what - I was supposed to get charged around 747 Euros but my credit card was only charged for 708 Euros - maybe they had a change of heart - lol :yahoo:

Also check out Overstock.com: Online Shopping - Bedding, Furniture, Electronics, Jewelry, Clothing & more - I ordered a Panasonic Blu-ray BDT-220 blu ray player last week and the price was cheaper than anything i could find here.

Also, they calculate the total price with shipping, customs etc - they use DHL - the packaging was so thorough that when it came, it was the size of a TV with 4 protective boxed layers - made me wonder that they must really care about this breaking more than i do

I got my blu-ray player in 5-days flat with basic shipping

Also, www.bhphotovideo.com - highly reliable

At the outset, let me state that my projector knowledge is somewhat outdated. I was doing my research 7 years ago when I purchased my projector. Some things may have remained the same while many things would have changed.

So first of all let me congratulate you in thinking into stepping into the world of home theatre. Going with a projector makes perfect sense when considering an HT. I have a 50" FHD plasma TV and it is brilliant. But for watching movies, my 720p projector beats it black and blue. Only when the experience of 110" image is seen in person, one can know the difference. Not saying TV is bad but when it is movies, no size is big enough.

Having looked at your requirements and budget allocation, I can't help but think that you have got it wrong. You are setting aside 50K for a PJ and only 25K for everything else (BDP, AVR, Speakers, etc.). That will simply not work. Further, you are compounding the mistake by going with the HT from Samsung, Philips, etc. The likes of Samsung, Philips, Sony, LG, Panasonic, etc. make the cheapest and the worst quality HTiB. But I shall come to that later. Let us concentrate on PJ first.

When considering an HT projector, 16:9 aspect ratio is the one to aim at. There are 2.40:1 projectors available too but these are too few, costly and at a great disadvantage when displaying true 16:9 content. The 1080p is also the resolution to aim at even though 720p can be good too. But cost is the factor. The least expensive (but reputed) 1080p projector is close to $1,000. Translated to India costs this will be well near Rs. 84k. Next consider the brightness. 3000 ANSI Lumens is too bright for a projector. Such a projector may suffer from low contrast. 800 to 1000 ANSI lumens is still good enough in a dark room. Contrast ratio of 30,000:1 is not native. Native contrast will be more likely something to the order of 3000:1. But projector requires a dark room. Finally you must also consider horizontal+vertical lens shift as a must-have feature.

Considering all the above cheapest 1080p projector for you will be BenQ EP5920 (around $850) followed by Epson Home Cinema 8350 at $1300. In the 720p range, you will find many good projectors that fit your target of 50K such as Optoma HD66.

Next comes screen. You can get a pull and auto-lock type screen for Rs. 6000 or so. A light gray colour screen will be better because it improves contrast.

And finally the HT. If you are considering original blu-ray stuff, you must think of at least a proper HTiB such as Onkyo HTS-3500. This would be close to 35K. The best option would be separates but that may be beyond your budget for now. A good BDP will cost you a minimum of 8K. Do not compromise on sound system when thinking of a projector. A true movie experience is 50% video and 50% audio. So the spend must be at least the same and in fact sound system would be twice the cost of the PJ.
