I have recently auditioned KEF C5 and Polk RTI A5 with Yamaha rxv 471 ( I have yamaha rxv 663 US version ) at USK electronics , Hyderabad.
First when I heard Polk RTI A5 with Yamaha rxv 471, I rellay lre iked the bass and didnt feel that I am missing fome frequencies. Was very convinced.
Then I heard KEF C5 with Yamaha RXV 471, and there is considerable change in the sound produced. Bass is very low , and I can hear some frequencies which I have not heard in the Polk RTI A5. Then the same sound is produced with a sub and there is bass produced but definitely not enough to me. .
Some feedback from the store manager ( I think it is chandra shekar ), that

1) Polk RTI A7 & KEF C7 need more power that what RXV 663 can produce. now in this case since I have a US version AVR, he claims the power rxv 663 US version produce is only 60% compared to Indian version due to the cycles.

2) ROOM size 25 x 18 can never be sufficient with RXV 663 ( US version ) and any of the RTI A5 or KEF C5. Asked me to upgrade the AMP to DENON preferbly. or an amp would suffice.

Should I seriously need to consider getting a AMP for my room size ?

will Yamaha RXV 663 drive KEF C7 ?

If not should I need to conisder any other speakers ?

I am planning to use Denon 2310 with Kef iQ7 fronts and Kef iQ60c for a 24x16 dedicated acoustics done room. The sub would be Polk DSW 660 (500W). My Home theater expert said that is good enough for movies in that room.

However I am not happy with the 2 channel stereo performance of the above setup. Seems like Denon AVR is the weak link ere. I am actually in the hunt for a good stereo setup :).

Denon AVR has good power and good for movies. You may want to try out the new 2312 or 3312 for the given room size.

It is sufficient. I have just purchased a yamaha rx-v471 after testing it in comparison with denon 1612. Read my review in the review section. The 471 was tested with 5 power demanding coaxial speakers and also with Dali ikon 6 in stereo mode. it was proved better than denon 1612 for me. True denon will have more power (only 10% more) but it is not more musical power. My room is also 25' x 16'.

However, any speaker will always perform better with more 'musical' power, but don't expect that from AVRs in this range. If 2 channel is what you want - go for an integrated. but if you are going to upgrade to surround sound, then ofcourse stick with AVR.

Your Yamaha 663 is a champ! don't worry about enough power, especially if you are only powering two fronts. And even when you use all five speakers, only the loud party levels with all 5 speakers blaring will be a problem, not the movies or music at home entertainment levels.

No surprise about Polk having good bass... I used to own the budget range TSi300 with 5" woofers and it produced good bass, but not the most refined sound. Their RTi series is much better. Compare the RTi with Q series... C series is entry level comparable to TSi...
